Tips for 84 C10 trans

Getting ready to swap a junkyard trans in my friend 84 c10 over the weekend. I am familiar with swapping trans (recently swapped a crate 4l60e in my brothers 96) but wanted to get some tips to get the the mechanical kick downs and other mechanical things that this older style has since I have never messed with one. Wish he was using a rebuilt or crate one but he is on a tight budget. The truck is a 84 and originally had a 350 but we recently swapped the motor to a junkyard 305 out of a later 80s van. Any specific year we should be pulling trans from? We plan to replace the torque converter before installing. Appreciate any advice to make this swap go smooth over the weekend.

Guessing, but you are probably going to use a 700r4, yes? If you need the TV cable adapter, because the stock one won't work for whatever reason, I'd suggest going to Bowtie Overdrives and getting one of their TV cable brackets to get it set up correctly.

Re: Tips for 84 C10 trans

The 87-92 TH700R4/4L60 transmission is the best one to use. Look at the serial number stamped just above the pan on the rear portion of the case. The first or last number matches the year. The 82-84 trans had a 27 spline input shaft the 85-92 had a 30 spline input shaft. So you would need to make sure you use a 30 spline converter with the 87-92 transmission. The TV cable hook up, dipstick and electric connector is the same on all of them.
