New to the forum. 69 GMC small window cab on a 70 ¾ ton long bed 4x4
New to the forum and new to 67-72 Chevy/GMC. Had chevy cars all my life. Owned many. Up until now, I never had a truck.
Picked up a 69 GMC small window cab on a 70 ¾ ton long bed 4x4 frame a couple months ago. Have pictures and will post. Trucks rough, beds gone cab floors gone. Will need lots of donor parts. Trucks to be a father daughter build with her getting it when she turns 16. Truck came with no front clip, engine, trans or doors. I know or found the cabs are the same, but the fenders are different. She likes the 70-72 style grilles. Picked up a 72 front clip. Question is the doors. Lmc shows 67-71 for gmc/Chevy and a 72 door for Chevy. But other sites show them being all the same. Don’t understand it there is a difference. it has a 8 bolt 14 bolt rear and front enclosed knuckle front dana 44. Want to move gas tank from cab to bed, have seen different modifications. Can’t remember where I saw them running it from the rear marked bed light. Will take a while but have time to get right. Would appreciate any guidance or where about of parts. |

I think you may be a little confused on what you have here, 67 was the only year for the small back window. As far as the doors go. 67-72 doors will all fit, in 72 the interior door panel was different. As far as the axles go I'm still learning myself, another member might know a little more.

yes it sounds confusing. the 70 frame i bought has a 67 cab mounted on it. the original cab was rusted beyond repair and the guy who had it put that one on it. different website show different years for the doors. so i can put any door on the cab.

Yes any year door will fit that cab. It's very common for people to peice these trucks together with whatever they can.

Welcome to the 67-72 Chevy truck board. What a very cool project! The biggest difference in the 72 doors are they had plastic door panels with longer door mech and window crank mechs. They also have an extra brace in between the inner and outer skin with a screw going through under the wing vent that 67-71s don't have. I would find any Dana 44 with matching gear ratios as your rear axle from a 71 to 77 to use. These will have open knuckles and disc brakes. You could also use a corporate 10 bolt 8 lug if you can't find a D44. The closed knuckle axles are getting harder to get brake parts for.

i plan one doing the vent window delete like i did on my 66 nova. wasn't sure if the door panel it self was different. so a later dana 44 will bolt right in with no modification.

I think 67's are a little different at the steering box. I'm not 100% on that. 72s have a strap on the LH front leaf spring mount to keep the spring from coming forward if the leaf brakes. I'm not sure of any other differences that I can remember.

You're right on the 67 frame by the steering box. I didn't know about the strap on 72's
