I need to replace the spot-welded piece shown below.

I am certain that nobody makes a re-pop of this, so I'm going to ask: What is the easiest way to replace this? I mangled this section of my firewall being a stupidass, cut through the support structure, tried to fix it and screwed it up worse in the long run.

If nothing else, what are the differences between the 67/68 and the 69-72 trucks in this area?

Looks simple and strait forward if you have a welder. Just locate and drill out existing spot welds and back fill with weld. Use zip screws to hold in place or clecos... J.

that's what i was planning. looks like the front clip is coming back off. meanwhile, where the heck can you get a clean replacement for this piece?

Post up on the parts board, it shouldn't be that hard to find. It's gonna be a few weeks before I get that far tearing down my parts truck or I'd send you one for nothing. (assuming mine's rust free, which isn't a safe assumption at all.)

Shifty - you say this is screwed up. What is the problem? Can you show a better(or worse) picture of the damage? Is this all related to the hydralic clutch linkage?

The one in the picture isn't screwed up.

I won't post a picture of how badly it's damaged because, quite honestly, I am too embarassed to show it.

Basically, I warped the entire engine-bay side of the firewall near the steering hole. I also shredded the brace pictured above.

That sucks. I've done a couple things to my truck I refuse to post due to embarrassment as well. And some I won't even tell my pops about 'cause he'll laugh at me

Can anyone with multiple year ranges of trucks break out a tape measure and compare the difference in size between the 67-68 and 69-72 in this part of the firewall, please?

Do most of the bolt holes line up? (Thanks, if you can do this, and thanks ten times more if you can post pictures of bare firewalls from the INSIDE

)

You do live and learn, but ... if I cut my cack in my zipper while takin' a leak, I damned sure wouldn't tell you guys about it

Sad part is, I was completely sober when I did it.

i just went down and looked at it again. I don't think it's as bad as I was thinking. I just need to figure out how to get the ripple out of the engine bay side. I need to measure it all out and see if it will do what I want or not. I suppose I could weld a bracket over the rippled metal on the other side.

Here is a picture of a '70 GMC (Blue) and a '70 Chevy (Yellow) firewall.

These two look the same to me.
