muffler question

just put my exhaust on my 402, 2 1/4 inch piped dueled with flowmaster 40's (my dad bought them without me knowing)
they exit right in front of the rear tire but they had to put the muffler real far back. but my problem is that it is really quiet, but my dad said that was because it was so far back. is that true? if so what other muffler would you get to have a deep loud rumble sound?
also its running close to 400 hp and 10:1 compression if that helps
