Thinking hard about this Burb...

Money and space, money and space, money and space, and oh yeah the wife! Would compliment my truck perfectly don't you think? I drove down to look at it today and took a couple of photos, and the owner emailed me some too. What do you guys think?

Re: Thinking hard about this Burb...

roof rust always worries me, but it looks pretty solid over all. Get the check book out and bring 'er home!

To make more space, I see two options.

a) tell the wife to quit her job so you can sell her car.
b) get rid of the wife all together

it's easy for me to provide those options. I have yet to implement either of them though

Re: Thinking hard about this Burb...

My guess on the box is that is a Vapor Kool engine cooler. If your engine started to get warm you pulled a switch and it cooled it down. It was advertised to be especially useful when towing.
I am unsure how it actually works though. It would be interesting to know if there are coolant lines running all the way back to it, or if that line coming off the box ran to the front of the truck.

Re: Thinking hard about this Burb...

That thing behind the seat is a Vapor Kool. I am not exactly sure how it works. When I went to look at it, I couldn't get ahold of the owner so I just reversed seached his phone number to get the address. I only got to look at it locked up. Gotta go back if everything aligns, but it's not looking good at this point.

Re: Thinking hard about this Burb...

Owner said the original owner installed it in 72, and that it sprays water on the radiator to keep it cool when pulling a trailer. He says it still works. Seems like a good way to cause rust if that is really how it works. Anyone have any info on these?

Re: Thinking hard about this Burb...

That's an awesome lookin burb! Looks solid, complete, and original. Three of the biggest checklist items in old burb hunting. Plus it's a big block...

Good luck!

The cooler set up...
My Dad did something like that in an effort to help the burb pull the trailor in the Sierra Nevada, and I think it lasted one trip being that it needed a lot of attention. That being the case it ended up in the round files, along with the giant aftermarket AC system.

Heck no, don't buy it.....................LET ME BUY IT, and I will give you mine in return

Really, you should tell her that it is for HER, if you have already played that card tell her that this is another one for her so she feels equal to you in #s of vehicles....if all else fails tell her that you are not afraid to trade cars or Life Mates (cover genital area before you say this) if she still does not go for it, beg for forgiveness...buy her something girly, and let me buy that damn Suburban already

some nice options and some rust issues= buy it and throw a 4x4 frame under it. would make a great beach runner or camping rig.

Re: Thinking hard about this Burb...

that sucker is nice.
as for spraying water on the rad being a good way to cause rust... don't worry about ithat. It rains in most parts of the country, and that isn't what causes rust. Its the dirt that holds the moisture, or the salt that causes a chemical reaction.
Misting water on a copper and brass radiator isn't going to cause damage.

That burb is cool! I like the factory paint colors. Just tell her that it followed you home.
