Easy no-hack hidden kill switch

I hope I am not borrowing someone elses' idea, but I was trying to fix two problems at once last night and came up with this:
1. How to fill in the "choke" hole in my dash cluster with something that looks good since I replaced the carburator with an electric choke version.
2. Install a hidden kill switch without hacking into the new wiring harness.

Here's what I did - Took an old windshield wiper switch and new knob/bezel, cut two splices (10" and 18") and installed three female and and one spade connectors.
Disconnected one of the neutral safety switch leads and installed the short lead between it and the wiper switch.
Ran the longer of the two from the wiper switch back to the neutral safety switch.
Installed the wiper switch/bezel into the dash.

The far left position is the run position but anything else will prevent starting. It's hidden in plain sight and looks pretty good. I will probably go back and modify it to use a relay since I am not sure if the switch can handle the amperage, but the concept will remain the same.

Sneaky.
I like the "hide in plain sight" idea.

Re: Easy no-hack hidden kill switch

I like the idea too, but yeah I think it "should" have a relay, cause it would suck to not be able to start your own truck cause the switch blew out (of course since you konw about it, it would be pretty easy to wire around it and bypass the switch in a pinch)

Re: Easy no-hack hidden kill switch

That's another reason why I didn't hardwire the wiper switch (or the relay). I kept the NSS lead complete and near the NSS so if something happened I could just pull it from the wiper switch jumper and plug it back in. But yeah, a relay is definately in the plan...

Re: Easy no-hack hidden kill switch

A very good idea and with the money some of us have in these trucks it's an easy fix - but if the guy's gonna hot wire your truck, he might notice the different wiring. Just a thought.

Re: Easy no-hack hidden kill switch

Well, I used the same color, size wire and connecors as the original NSS setup and tucked everything under the column so it's hard to see. And it should still kill the circuit if the ignition switch is pulled and hotwired. It's not going to work if someone gets underneath and crosses the selenoid though. A pro might figure it out pretty quick but (hopefully) it might stop the amature/kid/someone in a hurry.

It's still a secret. You didn't tell us whether the switch had to be on high or low speed to start your truck.................:p.

Re: Easy no-hack hidden kill switch

I had a thought of hiding a pushbutton switch behind the cigarette lighter so when you press the button on the lighter you kill the ignition. Just an idea I had

Cool idea!

I've thought about using the Cargo Light switch in the cab, and just hard wiring the cargo light to always come on with the dome.

Re: Easy no-hack hidden kill switch

Awesome idea !!! I've fabricated an inside hood release, mounted the pull lever up high by the drivers fresh air vent. Every little theft deterrent helps IMO.
