Anyone running 15" 8 luggers?

While looking for something else, I came across a set of 8 lug, old school slot mags. Guy had them on a 3/4 ton suburban at one point. Was thinking about picking them up with some other stuff I'm getting from him. Photos of a 3/4 ton 4x4 with 15's would be appreciated, as this is what it's going on.

I know those slots will look good. And I think they'll fit just fine. The reason they used to use these was was because you had more tire choices, and they clear the drum brakes. I remember people used to grind down the edges of the early calipers from disc brakes to clear them. Just not sure how it will look on a 4x4. I found a set of 33x12.50x15's, all-terrains for less than price of 2 of the 7.50x16 mud grips on there now. And I have a buyer for my 3 7.50x16 mud grips if I go the 15" way. Just wanted to see if anyone is running them, and how they work.

No pics, but I once ran 15x8 wagon spoke steel wheels on my K20. Had to grind the calipers a bit. Had 11.00-15 Armstrong TruTracs mounted up -- nearly as big as 33/12.50s, iirc. Worst thing was a little too much negative offset so there was more bump steer than I liked.

Right now I'm running 33/12.50-16.5 BFG All Terrain KOs on 9.75" wide rims with less negative offset than the 15" rims had, so the truck drives better.

My 68 gmc has 15inch chrome spokes that are all nasty. The tires on the truck had about 6miles on them when I got it. I put on some hubcaps to cover the ugly until I get it in for the rebuilt when I will be changing it to a 1/2 ton. Jim

Found a 7.50x16 mud grip, actually 2 of them. If they are as good as they sound, I'll be picking them up tomorrow. I still think I'll get these 15" 8 luggers, too cool to pass on for the price. And I tend to stumble on to good deals when i'm not looking. If I have the rims in the barn, i may find a set of great MT's for next to nothing one day. Seems like these rims are pretty rare.

They look just like any 1/2t tire/wheel combo until you count the lugs. Just get a tire with the same overall dimensions you would be running in 16 or 16.5 and it will look fine. If you run them with disc brakes the calipers need a little grinding in the center of the outside radius where there's a casting seam. Some GM trucks used 15" wheels on 8-lug trucks in the '50s
