Where where the factory speakers mounted?

My Blazer came with a POS Craig cassette stereo. I'll be taking it out this weekend, hoping the dash wasn't butchered to get it in.

There are two 5" speakers screwed onto the kick panels.

Does anyone know where the factory speakers were mounted.

While I've got the dash apart, I'm thinking of securing some late model dash speakers (the ones that face up towards the windshield) and installing them.

Any other ideas of what you've done?

Re: Where where the factory speakers mounted?

Thanks for the info. Since those shown are single speaker systems, I assume the radios came in mono rather than stereo. I think I'll go ahead with the in dash 2 speaker system for the stereo. I know many purists out there wont agree with cutting into the dash, but I want great sound and most other options are limited. I may have to pop the windshield to do it, but it's gonna look professional! My Blazer came with 2 six inch and very deep speakers on the kick panels that look like crap. the left one's in the way of the parking brake also.

I believe there may be a single speaker made now that would work for you. I think I've seen them in the truck catalogs. Looks and mounts like the original truck single speaker in the dash but is stereo. Try Lmc

See here for very good quality new replacement in-dash speaker: http://www.turnswitch.com/speakers.htm Not sure it's what you'd need for an underdash speaker but see what he has.

Greg does very good radio restoration work. I've visited his shop when he rebuilt an am/fm radio for me.

Re: Where where the factory speakers mounted?

Guana, I think yours may be the best way to go. The previous owner of mine just screwed some large speakers that stick out way too far and they look like crap. (besides getting in the way of the park brake) I've seen what you have advertised. Probably be better to use those rather than tear up my dash to put speakers up top under the windshield.

Did you put one of those newer retro looking radios in?

My K5 still has the original un-cut dash with the am radio installed, it doesn't work bit still looks good which is what I was after. I have a unit installed in the center console that I run the ipod off of. The unit is basic with a amp and small 8" sub installed under the rear seat. Just enough bump when the top is off.
