Unhappy edelbrock carb and stock manifold ?

im putting an edelbrock carb on my 72 /350. the guy at the parts store got the carb for me and i asked for the adapter plate for my truck. he grabbed one, an open one. that is, on with one big hole.

i didnt think much about it, i came home and put everything on. im short a few little things before i fire it up so.. lol, now i decide to look at the instructions.

i read here that for gm products with qjets, it says not to use the open adapeter. i guess i need the one with the 4 holes in it. %(#$# every thing is on now, i hate to have to rip it back apart.

did the parts guy screw up? am i reading this wrong? do i need to go get the right adapter?
