Intake swap questions...

I got my LS6 intake in to replace my truck intake... I have a few questions.

What is this and where does it go? Doesnt look like much of anything really.

There is a nipple under this sensor on the driver side, where does that go?

Another nipple under the throttle body opening, where does that go?

Plastic nipple?

I am new to fuel injected setups but dont they have an inlet and an overflow? This one only has this quick connect and then at the end where the schrader valve is (which is missing, PO must have been running nitrous I assume). Shouldnt there be a return quick connect fitting?

aldo I thnk i read somewhere that there are adapters to change the TB to a 4 bolt TB, is there an advantage to try and use the truck TB on this intake?

Thanks for any insight you can give.

Re: Intake swap questions...

that bracket is not needed. it was used on the previous car to hold wiring in place. the 2 metal nipples on the throttle body are suppose to have coolant flowing through them to pre heat the air as it comes in. More of an emissions thing, just leave them open. the black plastic nipple should have a hose running from it, to the passenger side valve cover on the rear metal nipple and should have a hose t into it running to the driver side valve cover on the rear. Be sure to put a pcv valve inline with that hose or you will have a big vacuum leak.

Re: Intake swap questions...

That helps with the black nipple although I don't have the 2nd nipple on the passenger side valve cover.... wonder if I could just run the one hose from driver rear to it.

Wait maybe I looked at the pic wrong, does the blue hose connect to the crossover hose?

Re: Intake swap questions...

Unrelated to your questions but I assume you know you will need to do something with the front accessories? The "car" intakes will not work with the current "truck" front accessories.
Also depending on what truck you have but these car intakes are returnless on the fuel so you will need a Corvette regulator and filter at the tank area and one fuel line to feed the injectors.
Anyway you probably have all this figured out already.

Re: Intake swap questions...

On the fuel piece I did not know that and in my post I did question why there was only one line for fuel and not a return line. How does the rear corvette system work?. I have a boyd's tank and in tank pump.

Accessories I have figured out, using holley brackets and change pump and crank pulley. I have to move the AC up anyway so seemed like the thing to do.

Re: Intake swap questions...

The corvette system has a filter regulator combination that is really inexpensive. It has an in (from your pump high pressure) and an out that is regulated to your 60ish psi and a return to your tank. It is really clean and simple. You will only have one line to run to the front.

Re: Intake swap questions...

yes but I have seen them much cheaper but it is probably because of the fittings. I dont know what all you will need to hook up your stuff. I would check your local auto parts place, it is a filter and all so I know they get changed regularly. Oh at the bottom of what you sent is the filter/regulator only for about half that. But check around.

Re: Intake swap questions...

with those fittings costing about $12-15 each, that isn't a terrible price.

Re: Intake swap questions...

that is what I figured, mine is a return type system and I helped my buddy set up his with that external filter/regulator. I didn't know what all he ended up needing to purchase to set his up.

Re: Intake swap questions...

Ok so fuel portion is solved so here is what I have so far.

Plug this

Plug this

Run to PCV on Driver rear (my pass VC does not have extra nipple)

So now I noticed there is a small port and a big port on the back of the intake, I assume the big port goes to brake booster?

Small port goes where?

On the back driver side of the manifold there is a bracket with some sort of sensor on it (I can take a pic if needed). I thought this might go to the small port on the back of the intak but that is facing the other direction (towards passenger side). So where does this go?

Hopfully last question lol... on the crossover coolant line there is a small port nipple. Where does that go?

The large port will go to your booster, the small port just plug it. As for the bracket Im thinking it is part of the air injection system that came on those cars it was removed from. Might post a picture just to be sure.

Re: Intake swap questions...

If you still have the intake off I'd strongly suggest picking up an LS6 valley cover and pcv hose. You can find the covers for ~$80 on Ebay and the hose for under $10 at your dealer.

Why do you suggest this? What is the advantage of swapping them?

Re: Intake swap questions...

It's a much more effective pcv system and it eliminates the ugly tubing and valve that the old style cover uses.

I wonder if we are talking about two different things. Are you talking about the cover under the intake that has the knock sensors? I went out and looked at the LQ4 one and there are no valves or tubing on it. It just has bolt holes and the provisions for the knock sensors.

Re: Intake swap questions...

Ok...
Did some looking.

I believe this is the valley pan you are referring to:

So based off this picture:

Are you saying it would get rid of the blue and yellow hoses?

Re: Intake swap questions...

I am going to have to look into the factory hose config for that. They kinda rigged in in the writeup I found and you see the entire loop out front underneath the plastic cover. I am sure the factory setup looks better.

What do people typically use to plug the driver side valve cover hole?

Re: Intake swap questions...

I just used vacuum caps.

The pic above with the LS6 valley cover is not using the correct molded hose to connect the pcv to the intake.

Alright Jon, you talked me into it lol....

Picked it up last night from Summit. A little more than ebay, but I dont like ebay unless it is absolutely necessary.

Now to find the proper tube/pcv. I have the part numbers but it is about the same price as the valley pan lol.

Re: Intake swap questions...

Nice, you won't regret not having 40 feet of vacuum hose running around your engine.

I got the pcv tube from my dealer, it was about $12 if memory serves.
