Lost my job

I was terminated from my job this week. I received my termination letter in the mail on Sat. The reason being is that work said they didn't receive an updated Dr.'s slip for being off of work for a knee surgery therefore, breaking company policy. I even called work to confirm they had received it and they had told me yes. I called the Dr.'s office and she didn't have the fax confirmation number of sending it. I am still receiving pay for the surgery, but now have no health insurance. Wow what a kick in the teeth. I am now an unemployed Industrial Engineer.

Ryan:

Sorry to hear the news...I am certain you will land on your feet. Good things happen to good people. Maybe you will have a little more time to wrench on your truck. Good luck with the new job search.

Re: Lost my job

That stinks Ryan. I hate companies that have these super rigid policies. Well, no doubt it will work out better in the long run. Good luck

Re: Lost my job

I really don't think I want to work for a company anymore that did that to me. It stinks I know, but to be honest I am ready to leave industry and go into education. I would really love to teach at a Joint Vocational School or a technical college.

Re: Lost my job

Legally, they have to honor your health insurance for a period of time after termination (check your state labor laws) and then offer you cobra insurance after that period.

Go register for unemployment now. I believe there is a grace period.

Re: Lost my job

I was working for Ada Technologies Inc. in Ada, Oh. My knee surgery and current pay is taken care of by Worker's Compensation. It is from an injury that happened in 1999 at another company. It still blows me away though. Cobra, by the way, is $761.00 a month.

Re: Lost my job

I have a cousin working for Ohio Northern there in Ada... cousin's husband actually.
Are you qualified for something there? I can make a call and see if he can locate openings there maybe? I don't know, they may go through outside sources to hire people, but it's a small enough school.

I still have family living in that part of the state... 2 families on the outskirts of ada, and my grandmother in Lima.

Re: Lost my job

Well a couple of things I have under my belt that will help me. I have a Bachelors of Science degree in Industrial Engineering with a minor in business, an Associates Degree in Flexible Manufacturing Systems, and I was a plastic injection mold maker for 8 years before I went back to school and got my Bachelors degree. I also programmed CNC milling centers, lathes and wire edm for a total of about 7 years. This was also some included time as a mold maker.

Re: Lost my job

well, my cousin's house is on Rt 256 I think... the road that goes by the green running track at Ohio Northern... just a couple miles past the tracks headed north (i think north...away from Rt309)
Then my uncle lives just a few miles further ... bear with me here, keep going up that same road (the one that I think is rt256) then hang a left at the dead end and a few more miles... a log cabin off to the right.

I'll try and give them a call tomorow and see if they do there human resources internally or what. I can't 'pull strings', but a little inside info can make all the difference.

Re: Lost my job

no problem.
You don't know a chick there in Kenton by the name of Bobby Jo Spears do you? Or maybe her kid sister Jamie... Bobby would be 35 at the end of this month, and I guess Jamie would be in her early to mid 20's.

Re: Lost my job

Before you go off half cocked, check the legality of what they are doing.IIRC they cannot terminate you while you are being medically treated for an OTJ injury. They may not have a legal leg to stand on.You may be able to sue for it.I realize you don't really want to work for someone like that anymore but I doubt you would refuse to take $$$$ from them on the way out.

Re: Lost my job

dude... it was worth a shot. My cousin said he can't help in any way shape or form, and is not permitted to talk about openings that are or are not avalible to fill.
Sounds like he is either being an @ss, or covering his @ss... or he isn't part of a union and is scared of them or something.
Either way... sorry man, I tried.
