c10/c60

Guys, new to the forum and would appreciate some help. I have found a 65 C60 in great shape for cheap. I want to build a c10 on another platform and was curious the difference between the two trucks. I know about the c60 floor, inner outer fenders, core support, etc. but what about the rest? I contacted a company to buy sheet metal and they said the two trucks are different with the c60 having a taller cab. The c60 I have found is rust free and only 15k miles on it. Thanks in advance.

Re: c10/c60

Does the C60 run?

IMO it is a shame to cut up those old medium duty trucks

But then I have a soft spot in my heart because I had a 1965 GMC C-50. I always wanted to make it into a motor home after I retired it from logging, but life had other plans and I traded off the whole outfit. Later I heard that it burned up in a forest fire.

"I contacted a company to buy sheet metal and they said the two trucks are different with the c60 having a taller cab."

they have no idea what they are talking about.

all the cab sheet metal/doors glass will interchange.

your only concern is if the c/60 is a low cab forward truck- the one with the short hood. that kind has different foot wells that are relieved for the front tire.

if it is a regular c/60, all you need to worry about are a few differences at the front of the cab floor that are easily changed.

all the current floor patch panels will work on this cab, and require no less massaging than on a c/10 cab.

Re: c10/c60

That's what I was hoping. I would put the dog house of a c10 on it and move it to the frame I want to use. See any issues with doing that? I'm not worried about cab mounts as I will build them. Or the floor, it will be lifted. Thanks

Re: c10/c60

main issues with a c/60 swap:
the lower inner fender mount are in a different spot, on the earlier trucks it is just a bracket that unbolts, and you can use the bracket off of a c/10. the later 65 and 66's had an integrated bracket (does not unbolt), and you would have to cut it off, and do a little fabricating.
there is a support brace under the front of the trans tunnel that has to be removed.
trans tunnel has to be changed, and the c/60 mounts the column lower, so you would need to change the mounts to the c/10.
some c/60's still used the hydraulic clutch, which might or might not be an issue for you.

as long as you have a c/10 parts truck available you should be ok with the column/brake/clutch/trans tunnel issues.

even if you don't you could still go forward with the project, and we should be able to help you sort out any issues here on the forum.

depending on your lift the flat trans tunnel might clear..

Re: c10/c60

The cab supports are the same on a C60 as a C10. The 63 C60 cab I mounted on a 64 K10 had the front support hole location similar to the 60-62 C10's. 63-66 C10 have the narrower frame.
My 63 C60 donor cab had the mechanical clutch rod system through the floor.
The LCF models as Jon mentioned have different Cab Mounts which are significantly taller.

Re: c10/c60

Thanks for the info. Had brother in law look it over today since I'm 2 hours away. Actually only 1ok miles on it and no rust so I am headed up tomorrow to see if I can get the deal done. Brakes are out so she will have to be hauled. Again thanks and I will be back for more advice I'm sure.
