Re: vapor canister

If you plug the line you'll want to get a vented gas cap.

Re: vapor canister

My old '67 made my garage stink with fuel vapors. My '72 does not. I'm assuming it's because it has a canister. Personally I prefer not having the cloud of fuel in my garage.

Re: vapor canister

The canister is a fuel recovery system designed to reclaim unburned fuel and send it back to the gas tank. One of the early smog/efficiancy systems.

Not trying to be rude, but actually it pulls the vapors / fumes from the gas tank that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere and burns them via the PCV system.

Cory321, you should keep it hooked up if there is no good reason to remove it. What could possibly be wrong with recovering fumes from the gas tank that would otherwise be lost? Just make sure the vacuum hoses are in good shape and not causing a vacuum leak.

It's one of the few emissions things that actually make sense. I went to great pains to hook mine back up.

they hid it behind the battery. I dont think they came with all trucks though, yours may not have had one.

I'm thinking it is 71 and 72 on the 49 state trucks....NFC on the Cali trucks.
