Drop spindles with stock springs

Right now I have drop spindles and what I believe are 2-3" lowering springs. I love the look, but I'm strongly considering going back to stock springs because I drag my headers on everything. I'd love to see some pics of anyone with this combo. I'd also remove the lowering blocks in rear and just run the lowering springs.

My other question is would my 235/60/15 look ridiculous with the truck a little higher up?

Re: Drop spindles with stock springs

I have ECE drop spindles (2.5") and stock springs..... I believe the springs to be original to the truck which came with a big block and I have a 350 in it. Don't know if that makes much difference or not.... I can take some pics if you want... Also just wondering why you don't go with different headers and bring the exhaust up a little?

Re: Drop spindles with stock springs

Well, I think if I went to stock front springs and removed the lowering blocks in the rear, the change f/r would be about the same.

Are the front springs easy to pull out and replace? Obviously I'd need to re-align the truck afterward for camber and toe....

As for going with different headers, any higher up, and they'll interfere even worse with my shift linkage than they do now, and the truck has a full new custom exhaust I'd rather not spend the money on modifying. Plus, the headers I have are ceramic coated and pricey....

I have ECE 2.5" drop spindles with stock front springs. I have ECE 4" drop springs in the rear. Here's the stance I have:

That 235/60 is a pretty short tire. How about changing to a 235/70 tire? An inch or more taller and will fill in the fender opening better while raising the headers for clearance.

Boog is right. Put 235 70 15 tires on the front and 255 70 15 tires on the rear.

Re: Drop spindles with stock springs

I'd love to swap tires, but the ones I have are brand new...kinda hard to want to sink another $500 in tires....I bought the truck as it sits now.

57larry, that truck looks great...that's what I wanted to see. thanks.

I have this combo on my truck...I'm bagged with cupped lowers and a c notch...with long headers they only drag if I'm at full dump and I'm on the crown of the road...on the flat theres about 1/2" clearance.....

you could sell the tires you have and be on a new set for less $$ and work ....

I don't think any larger tire than what I have would fit now without rubbing bad in the fenders. I can get these to rub in front if I hit a dip hard enough.

They're on 15x8s with 4" backspacing. If I did what I'm talking about I'm sure I could clear the larger rubber. I too have the C notch in the rear frame.

Re: Drop spindles with stock springs

I wouldn't change your drop at all.
Sell your headers and swap them for a set of Chevelle "shorty" headers.
This is my '69 with a 5.5"/7.5" drop.

Re: Drop spindles with stock springs

Taller springs are definately the cheapest route to avoid dragging the headers.

255/60/15 with 8in rims (4in BS)... drop spindles & 3in dropped front springs. I have ECE headers and thru the crossmember exhaust (that's usually the low spot).
I haven't scraped anything... well maybe front bumper on a curb

Re: Drop spindles with stock springs

or you could put some stock spindles back on it.

i have bell-techs on mine with the bumpstops and mounts cut off and stock springs w/275-60-15's on 8" rallys.

the lower a-arms are very close the ground.

i thought about putting the stock spindles back on mine and cutting the springs.

that's the way i usually do it when i lower one. the problem though is if you cut them too much you run out of threads when you try to shim it out for alignment.

1 1/2 coils is about the max i'd cut them.

Re: Drop spindles with stock springs

i like the way lolife99 and mondo's trucks are sitting.

did you guys have to c-notch the rear frame and use an adjustable panhard bar?

Re: Drop spindles with stock springs

yep & yep... pretty much the whole package of springs, spindles, rear shock relocators, shorter shocks, adj pan hard, C notch & upper A Arms for lowered trucks (less camber/ more castor).
Buying a whole kit from ECE, CCP or others is really the way to go. Drop spindles means disc brakes... more $$$ for early trucks. Very nice when done though.

Does lowering job like on your truck require anything special? IE: notch, shock re-locators or is it just mainly springs, spindles?
