Re: any roll overs

No roll overs in my rig (knock on wood). I have been a passenger in one though. No crazy wheeling just two college buddys driving back to Denver for the weekend. My buddy was driving his 71 Bronco that we just budget lifted in the school shop (add a leafs in back and F150 coils up front). The big tires were at his house in denver so we made the trip on half bald 235/70 tires. Weather forcast wasn't great just rain in Pueblo turning to snow the further we got north to denver. Well rain went to ice in a matter of a mile or so south of Colorado Springs. With the road feeling kind of slick we decide to run to the next exit and get out to lock the hubs in. We didn't make it that far. Some lady pulls onto the highway right in front of us (we had already slowed to 40 or so). My buddy calmly changes lanes to avoid her and set things in motion. The bronco began to slide left, he corrects and now it's sliding to the right. It swapped sides at least 3 times before we broadslide into the median with the right side leading the way. the right rear tire popped off the bead and then the rim grabbed the ground and flipped us to the side and then we rolled onto the roof.

It was only a half a roll, but here we are laying with our backs on the roof. Niether of us had seat belts on since he only had enough bolts for one set. I blacked out for a second when my head hit the door jam to only be woken up by my muddy screaming "get out! Gas is leaking!" I manage to squeeze my large frame through the window opening that is now 10" tall. We survey the damage while 18 wheelers are roaring past at posted speeds on what we see now is a completely iced over highway. We realize the state patrol will show up soon and devise a plan to avoid the no seatbelt ticket we see coming. He had the belts in the back so we unroll them and throw them up front inside on the roof. We told the state patrol officer that we had the belts on but the darn bolts pulled through the rusty body. He bought it, but still gave a ticket to my buddy for excessive speed for the conditions.

We survived and all the bronco needed was a windshield frame/glass, steel top, door frames, pass side door glass and motor mounts. we didn't get pics of it, but we did end up on the 10:00 news on Tv that night. they were taping when we flipped the bronco back on its wheels with a tow truck.

Young and dumb? Must be a story behind that one. Looked like it was pretty nice before the areobatics took place. You can't post pics like that and hold out on the story!

Re: any roll overs

Sorry, here's the story.
Back in '86 I was twenty years old with a pretty nice '72 CST Blazer. Went to a friend's camp for a Thanksgiving weekend party. Lots of people, lots of fun, and lots of booze. Someone I hardly knew came up to me around 2:00am and asked me for a drive home. Being invincible at the time I was sure I was up for the task. Wrong! As soon as I hit the paved road on a nice dry straight stretch the "hum" of the Mud Terrains sung me and the other two guys in the truck to sleep.
When I suddenly woke up I had the two right side tires way over in the soft shoulder. I tried to correct, but the shoulder was a little too soft. She rolled over nice and easy, right onto the roof. Man, after twenty one years it still kinda sucks recounting this story!

Actually most of the dammage to the roof was done by the sleepy tow truck operator. He pretty much dragged my K5 about 15 feet on its roof before she finally flipped back over onto the tires.
I later found a replacement top, got the panels straightened, and she was back on the road in a month. Haven't driven under the influence since.

Pete

I made it

3"x8"x6' square & the gate is made out of 2"x2" square and a pice of 3"x2"
I had the 3"x8"x6' pice plazma cut so the lines would be straight..other than that I welded it up and made the gate, it is welded to a boat trailer spindal

Re: any roll overs

I bought it for parts this way. The guy that did it says he was told he swerved to avoid a deer but doesn't remember a thing.

He was a loopy guy to talk to. I hope it was from the accident and that he wasn't like that to begin with???

Re: any roll overs

I laid a 77 F-150 4x4 on it's side once when I was younger. Gravel, Curves, Captain Morgan.

I was also a passenger in a rollover once. A buddy and I were on our way to see a Rodney Carrington concert and hit some black ice getting on I-80....I don't think he even tried to countersteer...we weren't going very fast, and it kinda rolled over in slow motion..Ford Ranger btw. It mashed the top up a little, broke the back window, dented the hood and right fender and the doors didn't shut right anymore....they didn't even shut right after the body shop got done with it.

Re: any roll overs

No pics, but when I was young... say about 6 or 7 I was riding with my dad down a paved country road in his 81 toyota pickup..when an on coming car swerved into our lane and as my dad swerved to miss it we went through water completely across the road. Due to the wheels being turned it forced us into the ditch and flopped us on the roof. The windows were down so the cab filled up with water and mud. The campershell on the back busted and as I hung upside down tangled in my seatbelt it seemed to take forever for anyone to stop and help. It took a Ford pickup and about 8 guys to right the truck as it was water logged. The truck fired right up and my dad drove home with his head out the window because it was covered in mud. He pulled out the interior, washed it down, and beat the roof back out and we drove it for another 6 yrs until he sold it. It really didnt do too much damage the windshield and back window were not broken, due to the water cusioning the roll.
