Question Las Vegas members - I need some help

Hey guys, I need a favor. I am finally at home for a few weeks with a little time to work on my truck. I am going to get it fired and running as soon as possible, but I have 2 little kinks.

1) Does anyone have a 12mm piston stop? I doubt anyone does, considering I cant even find one online. My heads use a 12mm spark plug, and So-cal, the race checker, and NAPA have never even heard of a TDC stop at all. I can always use the tissue method for finding TDC, im just worried about being perfect.

2) Does anyone have an old stock distrubutor that they dont mind being turned into a pre-oiler? I gave one away a while back and all I have is my shiny new MSD unit. Or, have you already cut one apart and I can borrow it?

This is my first ever on my own build start-up, so you can understand my nervousness. I dont have any help other than the forum, and im just trying to cover all my bases.

Thanks, and thanks anyway if you cant help! Shoot me a PM if you can
-Tanner

Make a TDC tool:
Break appropriate size spark plug, then drill and tap for brass bolt you buy at local hardware shop.
Cheap and effective!!

Will look something like this when done:

You can get primers fairly reasonable at most good auto supplies.

I've been all over the city and cant find one... Closest I got was a 45 minute drive only to discover the guy thought I wanted an oil pump rod.

I'll keep at it. Can I make one out of any thing else?

Re: Las Vegas members - I need some help

another way to oil it is pull all the spark plugs and turn it over until you have oil preasure. Without the plugs it has limited resistance and I'm sure you used plenty of assembly lube.

Re: Las Vegas members - I need some help

If you lubbed it well would it hurt to pull the hot wire off the HEI turn it over with the starter till you see oil pressure on the gage? Shouldn't be more than 5 or 6 spins? Just asking.
