72 Crew Cab build thread

I just started my build thread in the other section,(Young Frankenstein) but was wondering if I had seen all crew cab threads. Anyone have a rundown of everything on this subject?

Re: 72 Crew Cab build thread

Here is a link to a thread on them.
http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...light=crew+cab

If you go to the 67-72 section and search "crew cab", a lot will come up if you look through them. Extd56 has a beutiful one, Rckln has a tahoe I believe, Hart Rod has one, and there are a few other builds floating around as well too.

Thanks Diesel,
I had seen that thread and have saved most of those pictures. The most informative one was Rockrln's build, but I don't see him posting much anymore. Was wishing I had missed one and could be directed to more info.

Re: 72 Crew Cab build thread

There was another one on here with an extensive build like his, but the user deleted all of his posts. It was a shame, because it was one heck of a build.

The Tahoe that he was building has been sold. My Crew cab truck is resting in the shed while I work on another project like I needed one. However my orange extended 67 truck has been seeing some miles lately running around. I did take the crew cab down to the party at A****er and it ran and drove great. Hart Rod still has his as far as I know and he will probably chime in too I am sure.

Re: 72 Crew Cab build thread

The other guy I was talking about was AK's R us I think. He had a crew and an extended cab like a newer 99 up chevy he was building. I was trying to get the ext cab, but he vanished off the other forum he was on.

I have loved watching you build yours, it turned out very nice. I am thinking short box, tell me what made you decide long box.

Re: 72 Crew Cab build thread

SInce I was making it a 4WD and also being a lifted truck I thought it would look better as a long bed. I also looked at late model crew cabs with short beds and thought that they looked kind fo funny with them. I almost used a longhorn bed on mine.

Re: 72 Crew Cab build thread

It's funnt you said that. I was actually thinking of building a crew cab and putting it on my Longhorn. Man that thing would be so long. A guy maynot want to drive it daily like that. IDK, it'd be cool though!

Dang it nate, don't encourage me. If I can find a decent burb shell, I might really think hard on it.

I will have to say that cutting up the burb and building it from that direction has been pretty easy. Lowering the burb roof was the hardest and that wasn't too bad. I am thinking that making my long box into a short may be harder.

I may have to get some counseling from you if I decide to go this way. If that's ok?

Sure, any time. Let me guess, you'll want to put a Cummins in it.

My plan is to use my 72 Longhorn chassis. I have to replace my cab anyway, so I will just lengthen the frame and add the crew cab when it's done. Yep, it'll have a cummins in it. If I do this, I have a 95 F-350 I might swap engines with the Longhorn. The ford will have a P-pump'd 24v very soon, and if I complete the Longhorn crew cab, I'll keep the 24v and sell the ford truck. I've been looking through the various builds and photos trying to build the confidence to try the 4th door. I'm pretty sure if I do it, it will have a 4th door. I have located a burb body, now I have to sell my cab and doors, and figure out when I can go get the new body.

Re: 72 Crew Cab build thread

Have any of you thought about doing a one ton dually? I'd like to try the crew cab after I retire on a 1 ton dually frame. Like you DW, I'm unsure about the 4th door, but would like it. Think I'll be pulling from Rockcln's work on Ext56 trucks. He seems to have figured out all of the engineering problems.

Thumbs up Re: 72 Crew Cab build thread

That is my plan, to make a 1 Ton dually crew cab. I have the frame now, still need a Cummins and a Burb body.

Re: 72 Crew Cab build thread

I am also thinking of doing a DRW. But, if I do it, I want it to be like the one 72Freak had. The problem with that is gear selection. I have found a HO72 DRW axle, but I want to keep 3:54's or at the most 3:73's. I may locate a 14 bolt DRW cab and chassis, or more than likely a cab and chassis Dana 80 if I get serious about this.

Re: 72 Crew Cab build thread

I was thinking of going with a 80's-90's frame and running gear then just modifying the cab mounts to take a 67-72 body. I'd like the updated engine and drive train for pulling a horse trailer, hiway mileage and so on.

I am in the process of using all modern drive train AND chassis for the sake of better functioning of all related items; better brakes, steering, suspension, etc.
This is what is upcoming on my build thread, Young Frankenstein. I am finishing up the cab sheetmetal and have a 2001 Silverado frame I will be grafting the body onto.
