Re: bucket seats

As far as I know, 69-72 will be the closet styles for you. 67-68 are called buddy buckets and they are entirely different. Blazer seats work too, the frame is the only different piece there. There are differences in the seat cover patterns between the years too, someone more knowledgeable than me will chime in.

Re: bucket seats

Welcome!
Myself, I've been keeping an eye out for for '73-'80 Blazer/Jimmy buckets for my '72 (already got the console). I 'm not sure if these are correct but, I am sure that you would have to modify the brackets.
Do a search for bucket seats, there are a few threads covering this subject.

Re: bucket seats

67's had buddy buckets, 68 and 69 had a different pattern and different foam on the backs than the 70-72's. my years may be off by a year or so. the blazers did have the same seats and the bracket on the pass. side is the only difference to my knowledge, blazer pass seat flipped forward to allow acsess to rear seat, blazers also had utility buckets that were wider. to my knowledge all consoles had seat belt holders and ash tray instead of cup holders but the consoles are all the same shape and size and interchangeable.
as for what has to be done to convert to buckets i do not have a clue and am curious myself.
oh and the bucket seat design changed in 73 (to my knowledge) went from low back to high back this is also when the console changed

if anyone sees something wrong please correct me, the only thing i am not 95% on is my years and when they changer from buddys to bucket style 1 and 2, you could get them in vinyl or houndstooth/vinyl amd i am not sure if it was original but i have seen some people on the fourm with highlander plaid.

hope this helps and i hope i am right!!!! lol

Re: bucket seats

feller, you are pretty close. 67 and 68 had the buddy buckets.
I think the high back buckets started in 79 or so. The 73-77 style is very similar to the 72.
I think the consoles changed to cupholders in 76 or so.

How much ya lookin to spend?

I bought aftermarket High Back Leather Seats (new) with a Center console that doubles as a 3rd seat, along with storage. Came with the Subframe and bolted right up to my 72 Floor. Cost $1300.00

thank you i am not too up on blazer stuff but i wasnt sure when they went to high backs and as far as the patterns that were offered i have no clue how to explain them but can spot them when i see them. thank you again for teaching me something.

i would like to add that it probably does not matter what the seats came out of but more how you as the owner likes the seats you choose. you could have any seat recovered and i am sure you could put what ever you wanted on them, like wise you (or a good friend) with a welder and a drill can make any seats fit any thing provided you have enough space. shoot i have seen some rat rods that have old steel tractor seats in them.

Re: bucket seats

I picked up these captain chairs out of a 2005 Silverado for $150.00. Super cheap because of the driver side tear at the edge seam on the drivers side. They are electric, it has the side and lower lumber, tilt, lift and electric with the memory seats.

Re: bucket seats

Are you wanting a factory look or okay with something aftermarket? If worried about factory then 71-72 seats have the correct foams for covers. 69-70 covers and foam are different. The thing to be concerned with when installing is adding additional bracing under the cab.

Re: bucket seats

As stated above, you have three groups of seats from which to choose:

1. 67-68 Buddy Buckets

2. 69-70 (single scroll pattern running vertically up the center of the seat cusion and seat back

3. 71-72 (double scroll pattern running vertically up the sides of the seat cusion and seat back

Be careful of the 73-up buckets. The mounting brackets, especially on the driver side is much taller and will wedge your legs between the seat and the steering wheel.

If I were you, I'd look into finding a set of 71-72 buckets to be correct. But I'm kooky like that

Re: bucket seats

Just a heads up blazer buckets will look the same as the 72's but will have a back plate on them. On the truck buckets there is no back plate so you can actually see the foam. The reason blazers had backplates was because there would be passengers sitting behind them and the pickups wouldn't have that issue. At least that's what I've been told. Prices can go from a few hundred bucks to a thousand or so.

This is some great information..I do want the 71-72 as you suggest..but I noticed in your build the passenger seat has no adjusting lever. Is this true in all the seats mentioned in this forum? I'm old but new at this restoring thang. I appreciate all your help..thanks

Correct, all of the pass side bucket seats are stationary. (blazer flips up, but not adjustable)

driver side truck mounts are stationary.
And please note: in my build, I show that I installed the passenger brackets using grade 8 bolts and heavy washers. That'll work, but not the safest way to go in case of a crash. I have sinced made metal reinforcements similar to factory. Much, much more secure. I'll take some pictures and post them in the next day or so. I'll also show you how I made them.

I would appreciate any hearing any experience you've gained since I'm about to undertake a bench/bucket conversion as well. Much appreciated.
