which year ls? which tranny?

alright guys, Im trying my hardest to learn all the modern tech. and what is involved with doing 1 of these swaps. I have a 67 c10 2wd. Is one specific year better than another? Would running a built 700r4 trans be better than the electronic trans? Also is there a list of exact parts i need that i could take to the junk yard to make sure i can get all i need? I think ill find a 5.3 since 6.0s are scarce from where im from unless their is a website that will ship warrantied low miles motors with all hardware. Thanks in advance guys

Re: which year ls? which tranny?

300mm 4L60E/4L65E, On a low mileage one, I would add some frictions & steels to the 3-4 clutch pack, HD sunshell, 29 element Borg-Warner forward sprag, Transgo Hardened pump rings, Pump bushing. Transgo SK 4L60E shift kit, .472 boost valve & stab a new case bushing........I do this to all my under 30,000 mile 4L60Es.

When I did mine I bought the 5.3 motor/4L60E trans/computer as a package. Made for a hassle-free installation.

Re: which year ls? which tranny?

I am interested in this also. Like bloodybigblock, I just want to order the complete package that is warranted. I see these wrecks where the donor has been rolled over. I have had enough of "Oh yeah it's fine!" after the engine has been pressure washed and strapped to the pallet. I also do not want one that has the common cold start knock that my 2000 Z71 had. Which years is that knock corrected by GM?
Sources? Year model? Average Prices?

Re: which year ls? which tranny?

My suggestion is to get an extended warranty ( 6-12 months) if there is any chance that the swap would take you that long.

Also get all the prep ready and buy the motor/trans when all that is needed is dropping it in and such, for the exact reason above.

I got the 6 month warranty on mine, took me a while to get it in and ready to start, then it wouldnt start, it had enough rust in the passenger side piston holes to not allow it to crank over, yes I should have checked it prior but I had my hands full, lesson learned there. they took it back and I bought one from LKQ
