Awd c10?

what would it take to make my 85 2wd c10 into an AWD c1o? has anyone done one of these yet? what is all needed part wise to build one and does anyone have pics of what was done, just curious? could I use 2wd leaf spring up front with a 4wd front axle on my 2wd frame? what kind of mods would I have to do to get the front perches mounted on the front of my 2wd frame or is it even possible to do since I don't think it bolt right up? if so wat year front axle, springs or whatever would I need to do this? let me know thanks!!

Re: Awd c10?

well, the 85 doesnt have a leaf sprung front in the 2wd. i am certain you could swing an axle under the truck, but the OEM style bracketry would be required from a 4x truck, or you could fabricate what you needed. the best bet would be to find a truck with a decent 4x frame and use that. completely. you could swap your body if it was in nicer shape.

if you were shooting for a low stance truck that was truly AWD and not 4x, i dont think you will get the lower ride height with an oem style solid front axle. in whic case you will be looking at extensive fab and design work.

Re: Awd c10?

you find a newer chassis that is AWD and put your body on it, like a esclade ect, then you would have a new ls and AWD! lot of work!! just a thought!

Let me know when if you get an answer I want to do the same thing to my 68 short bed. The gmc typhoon and others fulltime 4wd with 400 hp are awesome incredible handling and traction.

Re: Awd c10?

Chevy had a full time 4x4 in the 70's and early 80's(?)
Np203 t-case had a differential in it and had auto hubs or slugs.

You can put a 4x4 front axle under a 2wd either by utilizing factory 4x4 hardware or buying aftermarket. It isn't a bit in deal, plenty of measuring, drilling, and some fabrication will be in order.

Re: Awd c10?

the key difference between the newer AWD trucks and suvs vs. the older is the front suspension. they all used IFS which can be designed to ride significantly lower. so, if you are attempting to get that lower ride height and awd in a 4x with a solid axle i think you are going to be dissapointed. they also use CV joints at the wheel so they dont oscillate when turned.
