No idea what this button does
Hello all. I'm restoring a 1967 Chevy C10. I'm a novice and learning through youtube videos, forums and manuals. I installed new carpet and have come across this button pictured. What is this button's function. Any info is appreciated.

Re: No idea what this button does
It looks like the high-beam headlight switch. Either that or ejection seat - try it out to see what happens.

Re: No idea what this button does
Thanks. Definitely not an ejections seat! LOL.
My headlights aren't working now (the brake lights do though) and they did last week. Same for my cabin light. Do you this this switch is the culprit? Should I check the connection? Thanks! Also attached a pic of my fuse box. |

Re: No idea what this button does
Personally, I would check your headlight switch first, mine is on the fritz and I have to play with it sometimes to get interior/dash/or headlamps to come on.

Re: No idea what this button does
There may be a link between the switch and the headlights not working. Back in the day, I was driving my Pontiac LeMans back to school and hit the headlight dimmer switch which made the headlights go out. I had to drive a few more miles up the road with parking lights only. I can't remember the fix, only that there was a connection between the switch and the loss of headlights.

Re: No idea what this button does
Check to see if your hi beams work or if just low beams are not working, I think the 3 wires at the bottom of your pic blue, green, tan are the ones that go to the hi/low beam switch. but if your dome light is not working then you might have a bad or dirty headlight switch, I have gad to pull my headlight switch and clean it up to get the dash lights and the dome to work good. the dome light should be a white and orange wires coming from fuse panel.

Re: No idea what this button does
It could be either. Check them both. Lift the carpet and see if the connector is melted on the high beam switch or if moisture hasn't corroded the switch itself. It also could be your wiring. Looking at the fuse panel, it looks to have lots of corrosion. WES

Re: No idea what this button does
I had a problem with that dimmer switch on my '69 GMC. Whenever my headlights decided to flicker or stop working, I pumped that floor switch a half dozens times and everything would work normal again. My switch had corroded contacts in it and caused all the problems. Replaced the switch - problem never came back.

Re: No idea what this button does
Like said before me, the headlight switch may be bad. I had issues with my interior lights and headlights, replaced the little box behind the switch and voila.

I think I would agree with Wes. The fuse holders look pretty rusty and crusty.... I would clean those first.... LockDoc

Re: No idea what this button does
Any suggestion on what I should clean the switch and fuse holders with? Do I need to remove the fuse box?

Re: No idea what this button does
CRC makes a spray on electronics cleaner. You can get it at most any auto parts store. I'd spray it on then blow it dry with compressed air.

Re: No idea what this button does
Once you get used to the floor-mounted dimmer switch, you will rail against the steering column-mounted ones.

My son had the same question when I brought my truck home. He also quickly found out that you do not need to press the brake for the shifter to move out of park.
