Re: Any Duramax owners out there?
My father has a 05 Dmax, im trying to see how many duramax owners are out there on this site because im trying to see if the higher ups will start a section for duramaxes and they said they have to see how much interest there is in it before they consider it.
How do you like your truck overall?

Re: Any Duramax owners out there?
I got one...... an 04.5 with the LLY motor. Bought it new in April '04 and its got 54,000 miles on it now. I put Bilsteins on it when it was new... what a difference! I couldn't believe how crappy the original shocks were and they only had a thousand miles on them.
It's had a couple of goofy things go wrong with it: speedo head shorted out and it would read 100 mph sitting still. Had the EGR valve and a couple of injectors go bad. And this past summer, I had to have the injector harness extension installed for the #2 and #7 cylinders because it would go into limp and wouldn't come out. Overall though, a great truck. How many trucks can do a brake torque with 5,000 pounds hooked up to it? |

Re: Any Duramax owners out there?
2004.5 LLY, bought it new and it now has 145,000 kms.
Love it for pulling. Running empty I can get 21 mpg running 120 km/h. Still not loving the 2500HD ride though. I went from a 2WD 1/2 ton Suburban to this 2004 2500HD 4X4 and really miss the smooth ride. GM was teasing us about a baby Duramax in a 1/2 ton a few years back and that would be a dream ride. Cancelled for now though.

Re: Any Duramax owners out there?
I heard about that half ton, i bet they could make a lot of money off of it because of all the people wanting a diesel but not wanting to get the "big truck", i love the ride of the 3/4ton trucks but ive always liked the tougher rides.
These motors are simply amazing with the allisons behind them. Project77 how does he like the 6spd? I can imagen they are awesome.

I've got an 2WD 07 (Classic) CrewCab 2500 HD with 44K and have loved it since the day I bought it new. Is your's a 2 or 4 wheel drive? Would you happen to have the shock part number as I would like to improve the ride. How did you know it was in LIMP mode? TIA Also, I'm getting ready to put some new tires on it and want to change sizes since the factory ones look way to small. What's everyone upgrading to tire wise? R/

I put Bilstein shocks on my 04 this past summer. They helped a bit but I find the biggest help to ride is tire pressure. I run 55-60 when empty and then up to 85 PSI when hauling or towing. The empty ride is better with lower tire pressure. Anyways I bought my Bilsteins from Kennedy Diesel, here is the link http://www.kennedydiesel.com/results...ubCategory3=19 I shopped around a bit and using dieselpace.com I bought from Kennedy. As for limp mode, when mine went in it was very obvious. The truck sounds way different, louder, and not as smooth, and it would not rev over 2000 rpm. Mine went into limp mode for 2/7 injecter wiring and the wires shorting out on the alternator bracket, both common problems on lly's.

My truck is a 4WD... I know I have pics around here somewhere, but I can't find them now, of course. I got the shocks from Kennedy Diesel in Loyal, WI. Here is his site: http://www.kennedydiesel.com/ . Click on suspension, then shocks and follow your way to your truck app. He's got a lot of other really cool stuff, too. When the Duramax goes into limp mode, the computer begins to shut down to keep from hurting anything vital and the most noticeable thing is that you won't be able to go more than 25 mph. Limp mode gets progressively worse the longer you drive it. Mine sounded like it was missing and wanted to die. The injector harness extension does just that: it extends the wiring harness for the 2 & 7 cylinders, because from the factory, they are not long enough and they chafe on the edges of the metal brackets causing a short. From what my mechanic read, there is a lot of wiring on the DMAX's like this, including one of the positive battery cables. My truck came with Bridgestones on it, but they seemed small for the truck, too. They were like a car tire. When I finally needed new ones, I got Bridgestones again, but I got the Duravis M773II's in an LT245/75/R16. A much beefier tire and they wear like, well, stones. Ray haha- northerngmc- great minds think alike! Last edited by 1949gmc; 01-30-2011 at 04:36 PM. |

Re: Any Duramax owners out there?
Just to add one thing, I was able to get my 04 to go 80 km/h in limp mode. You needed to work at getting the Alison to shift and a slight downhill was needed to get it into high gear!

Re: Any Duramax owners out there?
We have a 02 that looks like Project77's, but still in stock form, and with the dark gray interior. It's just about to roll over 300K here probably this year.
