1 Ton Dually, What's it Worth?
Alright guys, I've been looking for a 67-72 dually. I found a guy that has a '72 Chevy dually, pretty much completely shot except for the chassis. It has a pretty salvageable flatbed on it as well. There's a decent running 350 in it right now that he wants to pull and keep for himself. He'll let me keep the 4 spd. tranny. He wants $200 for it. I would need a new cab, engine, and about 50 million miscellaneous things. What do you all think? Part of me says you can't go wrong for $200 bucks.

It really is a matter of time and money. I have a flatbed dually here with a working winch and decent cab for 2K.

You'll probably want to chainge out the rear axle too, so it is nothing but a frame and front suspention and an old questionable 4 speed.
I would think you should get it for a whoile lot less... I've seen complete running trucks go for that much. There wasn't much on them, but I'd bet a kick in the daddy parts it was more than just a frame and suspention. |

If the body is as bad as you say my guess is you will find some problem areas on the frame as well. Look closely around the spring shackles front and back. I thought you guys didn't have rust down there though? It's all relative I guess. I am guessing that "shot" by texas standards is needing new rockers? Just kidding with you man but if you are actually going to use it then it sounds like you may be in for a major overhaul.

I'd offer 150 and see what happens. The junkyard I work at would probably offer $75 for that truck the way you describe it. I haven't seen many rotted frames around here, just mainly surface rust unless it's been sitting in the dirt.

found one in California for $600 and is real clean, very little rust email for info, it is not mine, I am not selling it, I will just pass on the info

One thing to consider. That 72 chassis probably has front disc brakes. If you get a earlier dually that would be a nice swap if you had the 72. I would buy it for that reason only. ...........Flat 67

You are right.For $200,you can`t go wrong.You can find a cheap 1/2t for the body and misc.stuff.
