Lowered Fender Height Measurement: Is this right??

I finally got my truck all put back together today, and I parked it on a solid slab or cement and I measured it..hmm..came up 28½" in the back (5" drop on 255/55-17) and 32½" (No drop same tires)
Here's a shot: (Since you all ask for pics.)

5" drop is only an estimate, it also depends on the springs and the number of springs you have. how did you lower the back of it?

You plan on doing the front. Looks funky with the front up so high.

if its not low enough for you put some drop shackles on it to give you another 1 inch or 2 inches depending on the mounting hole you use.

also, you cant base the drop on the measurement you take off the front, the rear of these truck sits higher anyway.

Actually adding shackles will only give you 3/4 inch or 1-1/4 inches depending on which hole you use.

Stock shackles are 4" long. My Western Chassis shackles are 5-1/2" at the lower hole and 6-1/2" at the top hole. So we have either 1-1/2" lower or 2-1/2" lower, but only at the rear spring eye. It will only be half this amount at the axle, which is where the actual drop occurs.

I wish companies would stop adverstising their shackles as 1 or 2 inch drop. It just ain't so.

I guess I'm just being picky.

Actually, I'm worried the FRONT will be too high...If the fron't lower by an inch, then that's ok

Oh, and about the 1" difference in front and rear measusrments. The front fender well lip is higher than the rear one. You can't use the measurements as actual to check for level. If the back measures around 1" to 1.25" lower, it's real close to level.

From your measurement above, if you drop the front 3", you will be level. You should end up at 28.5" rear, and 29.5"front, or real close anyway.

Mine is as level as it can get, measuring at the pinch weld under the cab/bed. Mine is dropped 4/6 and measures 27.5" up front and 26.25" out back. 1-1/4" difference at fender well lip.

Thanks! Yeah, it's going back to Original "Catalina Blue" when I get some more $$$ (considering I just spent $4000 on the stuff I just did: engine/suspension/wheels)

Boy, you sure are on the ball! Quick reponses.

I did mine the opposite of you. I did my paint first, then wheels, then suspension, working on the interior now and I still have yet to do the engine. Next time I will follow your pattern.

haha, I'm sitting here @ work, and since it's friday, I don't have any classes to teach, so I'm just hangin out here on the forum.
Yeah, I would have went paint first too..but I spun #8, so I had no choice BUT to do the motor, and I couldn't even bear the ride (the shocks and bushings were GONE!) so I had to upgrade the suspension, which lead to me having to get smaller wheels (I had 32x11½ 15's)

LUNCHTIME!
