I am brand new and ready to get started....I think

I have a 1967 chevy 1/2 ton. My Grandfather purchased it brand new from the dealership where I started working at. The truck has only 53,000 original miles on it but its in real bad shape. I have already thrown away the box. I also am going to need to replace the fenders inner and outer, door skins, and have alot of work done to the cab. I plan on replaceing the I-6 and 4-speed man. tranny with a pretty stock 350. I am undecided about the new tranny as of now. Anyway, I am going to mess around with it this afternoon. I plan on takeing everything off myself and have someone put it all back together for me. Any advice or suggestions would be great! Thanks, azskso

most 1967 stuff is 67/68 specific. make sure you get parts from trucks of those years. BTW, what options does your truck have?

I have the original purchase order in the garage, but I think the only items are, heavy duty rear end, forced air heat, and four speed tranny. I know she ain't worth much but its worth something to me. I want to keep a pretty stock look, but also do some convience upgrades.

You mentioned you will take it apart and have someone else put it together, Some guys hate that and will charge accordingly. If you take it apart, take pics and label everything good. Good luck.

I am going to remove what is not going to be re-used. My uncle is currently building a street rod and I am planning on useing the same guy that he is. He removed the body from his frame and then gave it to him, this guy is chargeing him $25.00 per hour, you can give him the new parts or he will order them for you. He does everything in his shop, except the intierior. From the frame up. Does 25per hour sound cheap? The only draw back is he takes a very long time to get the completed product.

I forgot to mention day ones progress, keep in mind this is the first time I have ever attempted to do this. I removed the rear bumper, hood, cowl, front dr side fender in/out, also half of one of the trailoring arms(busted my only 3/4).

It might help if you updated your Bio. If you are from around here, I might be able to help you find local parts. Might even have some free ones, as I just finished my '67. Won't do you much good if you are in Alberta though. Also, you can use a box off of any year of our truck. I use a 71 3/4 ton box to repair my C-10, just welded up the side marker. Remember that nobody cares more about this truck than you, so won't do as good a job. May also cost more for someone to repair something they did not take apart, as they don't know the best way to put it back together. These trucks are simple enough that it is just as easy to do it yourself on most of the stuff. Pics are good too, you know what they say, a JPEG is worth a 1K of data input.

You may have an early 67...like late year 66. If the option sheet or purchase order says forced heat, that hints to it being early. Would you be willing to post your VIN. or later half of it at least? (We found a 67 that was #15 off of one of the assembly lines) The heater was optional in the 60 -66 years, but standard in the 67 - 72, (including forced and defroster) the GM papers have heater as an option, but then scribbled over and written beside it standard in hand written script.

Wow...not too early a truck. #30,790 off the assembly line at the Janesville plant. (What state was that...anyone know?) That makes it turn of the year.
Just an interesting point on it...it lists a standard feature as an option.
