1959 car dash in our trucks

Im pretty sure I saw a picture on the board somewhere of one of our style trucks someone had grafted a 59 chev car dash into....Does anyone have that pic? I picked up a dash like that (for too much money ) now Im trying to decide what to do with it...the dash is out of my panel...maybe???

Re: 1959 car dash in our trucks

The car dashes are a little deeper, so ya gotta be careful, esp with molding it to the doors......do ya have a '59 Impala wheel and column??? That would look cool.
I have a complete '57 Bel-Air dash I've been saving for a hotrod project, but now you've got me thinkin'..........he he he......

Re: 1959 car dash in our trucks

I'm in the middle of this mod, the car dashes are for sure a lot deeper and not as wide. There is a large amount of fab work in making this work, much more than I thought before I started. Here's some pics. I'll post some of my "fab" pics soon when I start my "build" thread. Later.......Jerry

If I'm not mistaken the blazer with that dash is owned/built by "slogo" on our board.

Re: 1959 car dash in our trucks

That is a 59 dash, but I was thinking it had the stock gauges. I could be all wet though. Thanks for the responses so far. It looks like a ton of work. I may just take the dash to the swap meet instead. Unfortunately it was an impulse buy and I'm know I'm going to go backwards on this deal.

I wouldn't mind having a wheel. Hard to find a decent one though that wont bankrupt a fella.

Re: 1959 car dash in our trucks

If ya think of sellin' the '59 dash, I'd be interested....does it have all the stock gauges?

The one above looks OK....but I don't see the point if ya don't use the BETTER LOOKING stock gauges....

Ok this is gonna sound stupid on my part...I purchased this thing just from looking at a small picture of it. I jumped on it cause I know these things go fast and...I think they are cool I believe it has all the stock gauges in it, and here is the craziest part. I haven't even unwrapped it yet from picking it up at greyhound a few weeks ago. I'm into it 260 bucks...shipping was a little more than I expected, ok a lot more lol. If you seriously have an interest at that price I will take some pics and email them to you. I wasn't trying to turn this into a for sale though. So Pm me if you wanna talk about it.

Re: 1959 car dash in our trucks

Well I went and opened up the package. Looks like it was taken out of the car correctly. Definatly needs a good sand blast, and total clean up of the gauges. Looks like its missing one piece of trim and the glove box button is gone. The extra silver trim stuff is pretty cool but I don't know if it can be saved. Got the old brain working again, I think I may just try to fit this in the panel.

Re: 1959 car dash in our trucks

I posted a pic last year of a truck with a 59 dash but now I can't find it. The man that owned it is the collision instructor at the Technology Center in Athens Tn. He said he changes the dash in almost everything he builds. I'll keep looking and post it again when I find it.

Re: 1959 car dash in our trucks

Varies big time. Sounds like CG has $250 + in his, I gave $25 for mine, but I had to remove it. The biggest thing is finding them in the first place. As far as gauges, 3 of the five gauges in my dash were broken so I went with some Autometer Phantom Gauges. Hey CG, if you decide to do this keep in touch, If I screw up something on mine I'll warn you ahead of time or vice versa. ...............Jerry

Re: 1959 car dash in our trucks

I think that you'll have to stretch the center section of this dash to get it to fit our trucks. I have already trimmed down the outer edge of my dash and it's a little narrower than the truck dash. Has anyone found the owner of the blazer so we can throw some questions at him? ............................Bamm!

Re: 1959 car dash in our trucks

Well I had a brain fart (not uncommon for me lol). I totally forgot I had a board member here build me a new dash for my panel. No tac and a clock where the vac gauge goes. And I went out and found an old school tac for mounting on the steering column....The 59 dash will now get cleaned up a bit. I may take it to the swapmeet...or just hang it in the garage.
