Where are the best places to buy either steel or fiberglass step-side fenders? Are they even repro'd in steel w/o wheel cut-out? I'm thinking of putting together a '68 as a step-side. I have a stepside box off of a '74. I heard they are the same besides the fenders. Anyone know the story exactly about that?

The box I think is the same, the tailgate definately is the same. I got my stepside fenders brand new from GMCPauls and they fit exactly like the originals!

The step was all that was left, now that they are available you can build the entire stepside bed brand new!

The box requires some modification in the way of an extension welded to the front sides of the box to accomodate the smaller step. You will also have to replace the box to frame mounts at the back rear cross member. You will also have to plug all of the fender mount holes and redrill them for the '67-'72 fenders. Other than that...it is a perfect match! Oh...almost forgot you will have to extend the front stake pockets and fill/redrill a few holes in the back for mounting the taillight brackets and to accomodate the wiring harness.

Don't think you can buy the L-brackets which support the steps as repro items. At least I've never seen any, & I looked & looked for a set & couldn't find any that weren't rusted or bent junk at salvage yards. was getting ready to fab-up something at least usable, & then a board member sold me a good set (used) at a fair price.

Great to have access to all this knowlege..............

It's not super difficult, but it is not a bolt in swap either. It is a good thing if you have time and little money, it will work out just fine.
