Frame black, or color matched?

So I plan on starting my truck soon, but I am on the fence about painting the frame black or the color match street rod treatment. Anyone care to give their input? It will be a driver so if one will be more maintenance than the other that will play into my route I go.

Semi gloss black, looks good against any color, easy to clean. In my opinion, Ive never seen a colored frame that didnt look... gay.

I say black epoxy for a driver. Also black it so much easier to touch up.

monochromatic is a fad that comes and goes.... black will ALWAYS look good.

while this will start an argument with a small group of people... look at the Pro Street FAD. If, today, you drove one of the early 90's pro street cars that was on the wild side then, you'd be laughed outta the cruise in. They were loud, in your face, and many of them were just in bad taste... yet, it was the 'cool thing' to do.
Now... I have my nomex fire suit on... so go ahead and flame me. Then I'll tell you what I really think about the pro street fad.

On a full out custom trailered vehicle, body color chassis look good.

On anything else, go with black

Not sure on the gay thing either , my take on it is details , not over board but noticeable if someone knows what they are looking at. My frame on the 71 I am doing is gloss black with clear coat along with anything that doesn't move on it that bolts to the frame with cadmium bolts to make it obvious that I took the time to RIP EVERYTHING OFF and replace or restore. All moving parts will be the same color as the truck. Along the lines of this shamelessly stolen picture from here

Mine's not that nice & its painted black but a nice detailed-painted frame looks good in my book. I find that some people that say things like pro street cars suck, probably have never owned anything to be real proud of anyway. Ive had pro street cars but they looked more like stock muscle cars with huge back tires & to be honest, I'm a little offended by Andy's comment as well... No fire suit needed...

IMO if it is done right, they do indeed look great. and i have owned two tubbed cars. and maybe in the mainstream line, it went out as a fad.? but everywhere i drove......i got more of my share of thumbs up.....and one a grand national clone ...got me more ladie friends then sitting in a whore house with a fist full of hundreds...........

bad6772- I agree. For a show car I think matching color frames are great. For a driver it's OK too BUT, you better keep it clean. I've seen cars and trucks at shows and street meets that have matched color frames that have oil and dirt all over them. If you go that far with detail be prepared to keep it clean. That's why frames are black. I don't think it's gay, but keep it clean if you want people to look at it. It shows attention to detail. It's nothing to get worked up over. BUT, when I get pulled over for my loud truck (glasspacks) when all the open pipe Harley's are going by, NOW that pisses me off. What's UP?

I guess Ive just got conservative taste...(yea right, I should talk) I think (just me personally) that sometimes less is more. Also I agree that the colored frames are more likely to show dirt. If you keep it clean, it shouldnt matter. Personally Ive always found a certain amount of relaxation by detailing my rides.

Great input, and I didn't plan on painting a rainbow on the frame so I am not worried about looking gay. That gunmetal and blue frame looks nice.

From my experience if it's a weekend cruiser/show goer then a slicked out frame with gloss paint is much easier to maintain. Smooth paint is not porous, and wipes clean with Windex.

If it's going to be a daily driver and occasional cruiser and you just want it clean, then a satin finish is easier to detail and touch up.

In regards to the body color making your frame look gay, I think that only applies if your body color is pink

Keep the color on the body and the frame black.That way the body stands out.Frames aren`t for seeing.To much of something makes details disappear.Unless it`s a show truck,the colored undercarriage will look like crap once it gets dirty or chipped.
