Question 3rd door courtesy light switch

Has anyone ever mounted a courtesy light switch on the piller post for the 3rd door to operate the light?

I would like to set one up before we put the ceiling panels in place and I wanted to get a location of where to mount the switch on the pillar post.

TIA,

Jim

Re: 3rd door courtesy light switch

Well, I went ahead and installed a courtesy light switch on the 3rd door pillar post and it looks like it will work.

I ran the white, (ground) wire from the switch down inside the pillar to the channel under the front step plate, across the floor and tied it into the white wires that are part of the courtesy light harness. (I had wanted to run the white wire up to the ceiling but could not find a way through the connection of the pillar post to the roof supports).

The switch could not be centered on the raised area of the pillar, (ref. attached pic) as the inside reenforcments precluded the location.

While we had the ceiling panels off, I made a bracket and installed a rear courtesy light to light the cargo area, (pic attached).

Door switch is a good idea. Have you thought about doing one for the liftgate? Where did you get your perforated panels for the headliner?

Re: 3rd door courtesy light switch

Hart Rod,

Extra switch for the rear (barn doors on this Burb) is a thought, thanks for the suggestion. I will take a look at what it would take and see if my son likes the idea.

The panels have been cleaned and painted. If you are interested I will write up a short description of the process that I went through to paint them and what kind of paint I used.

72GMCburban,

The switch that I used is the standard truck door switch as used on the front doors of the 67-72 trucks and burbs.
