Re: engine paint color

Chevy Engine Orange for all L6s and SBCs for model years '67 thru '72 at least. [Not sure about when they changed back to blue, late '70s, I think.]
My '68 C/10 Stepside w/ 292 was original when I bought it in '73, and it was a bright orange then. The 2 times I've rebuilt the engine, I used the same spray can color and it was exact. VHT [hi-temp] and Duplicolor are the best I've found.
Footnote: '63 to '66 the 230s and 250s were a light blue and the 292s were a light apple green. I think this was a carryover from the older 235/261 L6s which had the same block casting but different interior bores. The 261s were painted green so they could tell them apart on the production line. When they built the first 292s for the '63 model year they kept the light green paint scheme for the beefier engines, even though they were physically larger. But I could be wrong on this point. I have a '63 model year 292 core. It's apple green or Alpine Green, which I figure is original.
