I think you'd need some massive amounts of traction, and moreso, move as much weight rearward as possible...or just lighten the front...

You'd be looking at fuel cell in/under the bed, huge slicks, a fiberglass frontend, an aluminum block, heads, and radiator...

Oh, and lots of torque to go with those slicks.

Forget about the light front end/ aluminum engine stuff . Thats for real drag racing not plain old wheelstanding. Wheelstands arent that difficult to get out of any vehicle. Theyre not the best way in the world to go fast but if you just want to show off its simple to do. You need a LOT of torque, thin coil front springs with 90/10 shocks and big ( aka huge) meats in back using much stiffer rear springs than you'd typically drag race with . You dontr want to transfer the weight down. You want it to go up. Hell on ET's . Throw some ladder bars in there and 50/50 shocks. Of course you'll twist all over the place without a roll cage and you'll probably get yourself thrown off the track the first time you try it but what the hell.

My opinion, traction,and torque.

I've seen alot of trucks pull the wheels, with a stout motor, a good stall, transbrake, and slicks. the main ingredient in my opinion is to be able to set up the chassis to put the power down.
others may disagree.....a truck is not the easiest thing to make launch hard, but it can be done...good luck.
p.s remeber not to turn the steering wheel while the skinnys are up!!!

if you want to do wheel stands .....without going broke, rear eng is the ticket! Check out "moving voilation", you will see a dual carbed bug motor......but the pics are old. Shes running a 2.3 turbo Ferd 4 cyl....yes there are scrape marks on the bottom of the back bumper! Here is the link... http://community.webshots.com/user/hotrodhorn F***ing crazyL

Will 3:73 gears be Ok ? Thinking it would be rad to be able to do wheelies through my town . Not planning on the track stuff so much as just a super cool street truck. How much are ladder bars and are they a easy install?

I hope youve got some big ass meats under there, I'm not talking about scrawny 18 inch rim thin sidewall 35 series tires either. More like 35 inch tall 16 inch wide drag slicks or sticky DOT's on at least 15 X 12 rims. Then your'e going to need to tub the fenderwells. The 3.73's will have to go to at least 4.88's if not 5.13's. And you'd better get a rear end that will handle the shock with some 35 spline axles. You'll probably need a transbrake too and a 5000 or so stall converter.
The laddder bars arent that difficult if you have a welder. About $350 for the bars and a crossmember but you'll need sone cages for the springs so the rear end will rotate and a panhard bar so add about $300.

All in all look at $3000 or so for chassis mods and it will look nothing like it does now.

You have a stout big block ... right.

Gang, this can be done for free... here's what I did years ago in an old Z28 I had--

Place floorjack under car. Lift car to desired height. Get behind wheel. Have friend snap a photo, making sure that the floor jack is on OTHER side of car and the bottom of it is hidden by the car's shadow. I had people all over town ooh-ing and aah-ing over that pic for quite a while

BTW, the car was no slouch (383 stroker) but it sure as heck couldn't lift the front end up like it looked in the pic).

run FAT slicks, shoot a 300 shot off the line. if you have a motor with 350 ft/lbs at 2000 rpm and you shot a 300 shot at that low rpm you just shot your torque up to about 1,000 ft/lbs . if you hook that up you should get the wheels up. of course you engine would probly explode first along with the rest of your drivetrain unless you built it to withstand that which would take alot of $$$$$$
