Engine cutting out???
Hey everybody, been a while since my last post but recently i've been experiencing some technical difficulty with my 70' suburban. To give you the brief overview of the powertrain I have a 350/700-R4 the engine has a 1406 edelbrock 600 cfm vac secondary w/ elec choke. I have a HEI ignition in the burb and I have vortec heads as well. The problem at hand seems to happen when I am going up the hill to my house it is about a 10 mile stretch with a pretty constant grade, so I go up the hill at about 1/2 throttle and suddenly it feels like either the engine is not getting the fuel it needs or that the spark lighting the cylinders has dropped to a much less voltage. The engine will be unresponsive and very sluggish. At this point I pull to the side of the road and the engine will idle like normal and I proceed to rev the engine to "clear it's throat" after that I get on the road and it's fine. Now I think of a few different things that could be causing this.
1. Dirt in the carburator that temporarily causes the stalling 2. Ignition module on the HEI. I don't know the symptoms of a failing unit but this is just a guess 3. Fuel Pump can't keep up with the engine at that RPM and drains the fuel bowl causing the engine to stall out Those are the 3 things I can think of off the top of my head. I would change the fuel filter first. Maybe the pump, if you could test the pressure, would help.

had same problems.. make sure to see that your secondaires in the carb are opening up.... take air cleaner off.. then have truck shut off.. and get up in there to the carb.. and push the throttle thing back on the carb to full throttle and theres a lever on the side and then push that up towards the hood and look down the carb to see if they are all opening
