Repop vs. original Grille question

My buddy and I are having a debate on original vs repop grilles for the 69-70 trucks. It has to do with the horizontal indent that is normally painted black. I hadn't really noticed before but apparently there are two different styles, ones that stop at the blinker light and other that extend all the way to the headlight. There are photos in some manuals that show the indent going all the way to the headlight so it's probably original at least for 70's but I have a 69 that I am pretty sure is original but the indent stops at the blinker. So are the grilles different 69 to 70 or do I have a repop?
The reason I think mine is original is that it still has the factory type rivets. I am including a couple of pics but don't have one of my truck at the moment.

70 original?

69 original or repop?

Sorry if this has been discussed but I can't remember seeing this topic before.

Re: Repop vs. original Grille question

The lower picture is how the new aftermarket oem grille comes. Not sure as if the 69 and 70 were completely identical but if you purchase a new one from a gm dealer or anywhere else you will get the lower pic

Re: Repop vs. original Grille question

Thanks for the reply. So it's possible it could have been replaced at a dealership with the original style rivets?

Re: Repop vs. original Grille question

Here is the grille off my 70.....I'm 99.9% sure its original....and it too had what appeared to be the factory rivets....It was damaged so I replaced it with the one in the second picture (New GM)

Re: Repop vs. original Grille question

the top pic is of an original grille. the black indent runs all the way from the side marker to the headlight bezel.

the replacement GM AND the repops have an indent that runs halfway between the side marker and the headlight bezel.

most of the quality rivet mounting kits you can get now include black rivets for the inserts around the headlight bezels.

I believe the only time you'll ever see the grille in the top pic is of a bone stock, never been touched since day one, truck. the grilles that were on the shelf for replacements after, say 1973? were like the lower pic.

Re: Repop vs. original Grille question

I have an NOS grill shell still in the box from 1976 and it has the shorter lines like the second pic...
