How can I put a AT truck in gear when column is jacked

I have a guy that really wants to drive and possibly buy the eagle truck. Anyway the Automatic column is jacked inside it and won't shift, I have linkage unhooked at column. Anyway to rig it so we can put it in gear to drive? I really don't want to start it and then crawl underneath it to put in gear. Thanks for any help, Randy

Re: How can I put a AT truck in gear when column is jacked

we did this on a mud truck, unhooked the shift rod from the column, the just opened the hood and moved the rod back and forth, it was hard to reach, but we didn't have to get under the truck. You could probably do the same thing and put a long piece of alum flat stock with a hole in it on the end, it would make it easier to reach, if that makes any sense.

Just a thought.

With the engine shut off, move the linkage until it is in drive. Hop in and with the shifter in park or neutral it should start normal. Just remember to have your foot on the brake!

Like no moa said, just change gears under the hood by moving the rod.

Re: How can I put a AT truck in gear when column is jacked

Thanks guys, I thought about doing it that way but wanted some input. I appreciate it!!!!!!!!
Jonathan, I had a good column but couldn't get the steering wheel off it, and all my others weren't black.
Thanks again, Randy

Re: How can I put a AT truck in gear when column is jacked

Randy.. I ve done a few in the Jyards to get thenm to move by unbolting the hump and useing a 1/8" weld wire or a coat hanger move the shift selector on the trans from inside the cab.... has worked for me many times in a pinch...

Re: How can I put a AT truck in gear when column is jacked

I just thought of another way. Disconnect the neural safety switch and jump the wires. You can start it in drive...still can't back up though

Talking Re: How can I put a AT truck in gear when column is jacked

Take the floor jack and jack it off the ground reach under it and put it in drive then set back down on the ground with foot on the brake. I had to do mine at a ballgame one night with my wife!

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
