73 door work on a 78?

hey guys so i had this posted somwhere else but ill see if i get better help here. so im in the middle of rebuilding my truck and I was in the shop last night with a couple of the guys and he pointed out that one of my doors were from the wrong year (truck was in a accident and doors were rusted beyond repair had to order new ones). I did a little digging in to my order forum and compared the 2 doors side by side. sure enough one door is from the 73-76 style. Now my question is will this door fit and work the same as the OEM 78 door would? like still able to use the old windows and vent window and everything else? Or is there modifying work involved? if that's the case i guess ill see if LMC will take the door back and exchange for the right door.

Any thing will be appreciated

I've never swapped the guts inside from one to the other I can't help you there. But the door panels are different. The older fits inside the recess and the newer overlaps. It still fits but you'll have to punch some holes

Yes, the only difference is the inner door panel. the 73-80 you cant even buy replacement wing windows for, they list the 81-87 as the same and fits. there shouldnt be any difference in your windows or regulators.

This may help.
The manual regulator one yr 73, 74-76, 77-87. Vent windows 73-80 - 81-87 butt work. Taller glass in the 73-80, 81-87 shorter glass fatter rubber at top.

More than just the door panels are different. The window regulators are different from 73-76 and 77 up, as are the inner door handle as well. Regulator stalks are shorter on the early doors, and will not work when installed on 77 up doors. Door handle locations are also slightly different I believe...but that might be the 81 up, though.
