51 rear end choices

have lined up a 350 roller motor from a escalade, and putting a 700r4 behind it. can i use a rear end from a camaro or chevelle instead of a s10 so it is heaver duty. or what do you recommend as a alternative.

8.5" 10 bolt from a leaf spring Camaro or Nova is the right width and parts, gears and differntials abound. CPP sells a weld on spring perch and shock bracket kit.

Re: 51 rear end choices

1995 - 1999 Ford Explorer 8.8 rear end.

Do a quick search here on the forum.

+ Cheaper (Picked mine up for less than $120 including a sway bar from a Pick and Pull)
+ Strong (8.8 ring gear in them with 31 spines)
+ Posi (many of them came with Trac Loc)
+ Disc brakes

I am putting a 1997 one in my '49 right now.

+1 to the Ford 8.8 out of the Explorer. I picked up 2 over the weekend from Pick N Pull, one for the 56 and one for my Dad's 65.
