Re: Turbo Hydro Matic ????

You don't say what year your truck is or whether it's stock. That may have some bearing on the type of tranny you have. As texanidiot says, power glides were the only 2 speeds.

Here's a site that lists most of the transmissions that GM made in case it's a newer one or came from a car.

Look at the pan gasket. It's the easiest way to tell.

Re: Turbo Hydro Matic ????

Power glide is the only 2 speed auto GM has. TH350 and 400 are both 3 speeds.

i can tell you that the last production for the 2-speed was 66. no 67-72's came with a powerglide. the 'glide was produced in cast iron until 63 & in aluminum til 66. then along came the 350 & 400.

Re: Turbo Hydro Matic ????

yep, they were offered untill 71 or 72.
The TH350 wasn't offered till 69 if i remember corect... that would leave Th400 on that M49 option... we are only assuming that's whats under there now though.

Well what does the shift indicator on your column say?

Is it PRND21 or just PRNDL (I think that's the powerglide)..

The SPID and VIN can help ID the tranny too..

My TH400 has an electric kick down not sure if the power slide or the 350 had that check if it has a wire going to it it almost looks like an oil press sending unit but the best way is to id the pan gasket shape.

Re: Turbo Hydro Matic ????

i stand corrected, never seen one in a car or truck after 66 (and yes i am old enough to remember those days). thought trucks followed the same suit. in any case they (powerglides) were the ones i least liked. boring to drive on the street

Re: Turbo Hydro Matic ????

the VIN won't help[ one bit on ID'ing a tranny
If there is no kick down, then it is a TH400
