I want to build something to lift my top off and store it above my blazer. Does anybody have any pictures of hoists they have built or know of somebody that sells them?

I like the overhead solution. Right now I am scared to remove my top, it may be the only thing holding it together!

Ya I made a frame and used an electric hoist to raise it to the roof of my garage.
It worked real well.

Thanks guys, that is exactly what I was looking for. My top is a double wall though, how much heavier is it than the single walls? Will the electric hoist be strong enough?

Thet winch I got from Harbour freight was only 75 bucks.It's rated at 880lbs.
The single and double walled tops are about the same wt.My guess is around the 250-300lb range.

I don"t think anyone has ever weighed their top.

You guys are amazing!! all i did for the 3 summers while I was in college & had a garage to park my truck was buy some cheapo rachet strap tie-downs from harbor freight, wal-mart, home depot, wherever ($20.00) & slung my top up by the rafters in the garage. Worked great!! never had any problems with getting the top to line up afterwards or anything, & I got to where I could have it on or off in about 30 minutes, plus then you'll have some tie-downs to hold down your cooler or toolbox when you have the top off.

Sometimes I think you guys think too hard. Don't get me wrong, those are some very elegant solutions & I admire the thought & work that went into them, it just seems like big a pain in the tail to me. Simple & cheap isn't always better, but you're just storing the top in the garage for the summer.

To each his own though.
