Is this wheel rare?

I have a question about the wheel's on my truck. They are the factory wheels and are 42 years old, and I don't see them at all in reproduction catalogs or on anyone's old GMC trucks.
Are these "rare"? Could they be used to re manufacture?

Re: Is this wheel rare?

Not rare, but those hubcaps might be the ones that connect to the little metal hooks on certain wheels. I say not rare because there are many that came with them, but many were lost or discarded for other wheels over the years. Trevor

are we talking wheels, or hub caps?
Either way, there isn't enough of a market to call for either one being reproduced.

Re: Is this wheel rare?

Those wheels appear to be the same ones that are on my 67. They should have the 3 nubs for the hubcaps to pop on. I'm assuming you have drums all the way around your truck? The original wheels like this are not in very high demand, because they don't work with disc brakes. However, there are 3 or 4 vendors that do make wheels that are similar to these wheels in 5 or 6 lug to satisfy folks like myself that want to keep their trucks looking mostly original after adding disc brakes. Rally America, Stockton, and Wheel Vintiques all make similar ones to these that will work with disc brakes. The hubcaps can be found from time to time on ebay.

Re: Is this wheel rare?

The Wheel Smith also has wheels similar to these that work with disc brakes. They also have some nice hubcaps.

Re: Is this wheel rare?

Rare as in hard to find, maybe a lil, cuz a lot of them got replaced with aftermarket wheels

Rare as in worth something, not really, only what somebody is willing to pay for them & the market is limited to people restoring there trucks

Re: Is this wheel rare?

All I know is that the original wheels on my 67 don't work with disc brakes due to backspacing and taper that the old wheels have. I'm in no way an expert on wheels.

Re: Is this wheel rare?

drum brake wheels wont work on a disk brake. The rim part is flat on a disk brake wheel, while a drum brake one is more of a U shape. Generally, aftermarket wheels are used on 6 lug disk brake conversions, or 4X4 wheels due to the reduced backspacing.

what? and there's more of a market for every other year Chevrolet or GMC cap made? the early 50's through mid 70's poverty caps are being reproduced to death, but no, and I repeat no one reproduces a correct 67-72 cap. seems to me there is more of market out there for a 67-72 cap than a '76 poverty cap, no?

as a matter of fact, the 67-72 cap should have been reproduced way before a mid 70's cap should have been reproduced.

Re: Is this wheel rare?

Your base model GMC is a hard find in your trucks condition. Most were used and abused and have dissappeared. I have never seen a factory restored 67 GMC at any car show I have ever attendend. The wheels on your truck were used from around 1962 to about 1970 on GM 1/2 ton pickups and are still plentiful. The hubcap design was only used 2 years, which makes them hard to find. What makes them even harder to find is roughly 1 GMC was sold for every 6 Chevys. Hope you keep it the way the factory made it.

Re: Is this wheel rare?

I believe I had the same wheel/cap on mine when I first bought it, back in '87. I think they were 16" bias ply tires. Had studs on the back. It was one of the first things I changed. I don't remember what I did with them. I think I have a pic somewhere too.
