54 corvette suspension questions
I bought a '54 GMC pickup and have been following the s10 swaps and purchased a long bed but I then stumbled on a variety of corvette C4 and C5 suspension swaps which is what I want to do. I have decided to buy a wrecked C5 donor and use both the suspension and drive-line with the LS1 understanding that I will have to channel the bed to accommodate the rear end mounted transmission. I realize that this is way out there but I do have a full metal shop and am not intimidated by the fabrication time required.
My question is, do I box the original AD frame and add the C5 suspension components as the aftermarket suppliers suggest or would the S10 frame be sturdier? Any insights would be appreciated. Last edited by csmeutah; 05-05-2017 at 12:06 PM. |

Re: 54 corvette suspension questions
I would stick with the boxed factory frame..unless its a mess..I'm putting a flatout c4 front under mine and its designed to be used with the factory frame..there are several full vett suspension swaps on here..

Re: 54 corvette suspension questions
thanks, that's the direction I'm leaning. I guess I need to confirm that the original frame is straight. Once I get it together I will add some cross bracing to beef it up.

Re: 54 corvette suspension questions
On my '55.2 I am using C4 IFS with the FlatOut cross member. We boxed the front portion of the frame only. In the rear I used a conventional live axle flipped on top of the leaf springs. This will result in dramatically olowering my truck and giving me a much better ride. But now I wish I'd have used the IRS too. Oh well. Depending how and how much I end up driving my truck this is an future modification waiting to happen.
