Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
I sold my old mercedes which was plagued by problems for my '63 stepside, and drive it daily.
I updated all the wiring with a painless wiring kit, rebuilt the carburetor, upgraded to HEI ignition with new plugs and wires, added a brake booster, and installed the T5 trans. Still has manual steering, the 230 motor, drum brakes, and 3.73 rear. It's a great daily driver! Not the fastest thing on the road, but not the slowest either. It drives great and I live in a a large suburban area with tons of traffic. It still has a long way to go cosmetically, but mechanically it's pretty solid.

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
Just bumping this thread up to get some more input. My 2010 Crv, after $8000 down, cost me $250 a month for 60 months in just car payments. It is now worth maybe $5000. If I can get my 65 up in the 15mpg, it would cost me less than buying a new gas efficient car. Also, my 65 probably won't go down in value.

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
I drive my '61 GMC daily when its fixed. Its been down due to a bad wheel bearing for about a month and its driving me crazy that i cant drive it.
its all original with manual steering and drum brakes. It dosent have a radio but it rattles so much i prolly couldnt hear it anyway but i love it anyway. I dont want to restore it just fix the problems and go. |

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
My '63 K1000 sure is (and was intended to be from the beginning) a daily driver.
I am always interested in keeping it original...other than the features that improve driveability , safety ....etc...One of the first things I did was swap the front & rear diffs for D-44 & GM12Blt..the OE's were shot. Then I installed a hydro-boost to cover braking & steering power assist right out of the gate. Also bolted on a set of 36" swampers to address the gear ratio... I recently swapped the V-6 305E/SM420 for a V-6 351M/TH400...That sure improved the whole " Driveability " thing. But to tell the truth, one of the most important upgrades..(away from OEM) was the seat. I had a pretty nice factory bench...but swapped it for a pair of '05 GM 6-ways with the integrated seatbelt. They look great....bolted in easy and are very comfortable. Sadly, they scream " NOT OEM ". But other than that...the list is complete. One thing I will add when I can figure out the best way to do it is intermittent wipers.... In these parts, if it aint raining....it's misting... But I do love driving it every day.

My 66 stepper is my only form of transportation. Power steering power brakes and overdrive 5 speed. It's nice have a ride that can get you anywhere and sometimes you drive just because you love driving it

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
i wouldnt say daily but i drive it pretty often........when the roads arent frozen or it isnt raining like crazy. i usually drive my wife's 08 F150 or her 08 Civic SI......yes she has 2 fairly new vehicles and i have a 63 but, she drives 50 miles one way to work (hence the Civic) so i usually drive the Ford.

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
I've been daily driving my 65 since I got it in August. It's got manual brakes and no power steering. I put some little 205's in the front now it feels like power steering lol! definitely doing power disc conversion shortly. The truck has a 700R4 which definitely makes it nice. finally got the heater working (it had no thermostat) I agree a radio helps although a couple rattles and the flowmasters sound good too. It gets lots of attention. I love all the old guys with the "I had one just like it" stories. I like the list someone posted early on, brakes and seat belts are most important for me. some more pics and story here > http://www.garagebuiltrides.com/home...lt-rides-truck

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
my truck is now in the daily driver status it still needs some rust repair done but it runs, drives, and most importantly stops and the heater works good so unless i have to travel real far the truck gets driven.
