Finished wire-brushing, scraping, and cleaning the undercarriage and frame - then painted it. Went the cheap, self-labor route - and did it myself instead of getting it blasted..

Man, what a nasty job. It's not perfectly clean, but it's MUCH better than it was and about 10 lbs lighter without the grime.

Also painted the firewall - again..

Got the rear springs on it and put the wheels/tires on it, sat it on the ground for the first time in a while, and man - I love the way it sits and can't wait to get it on the road!

Gonna try to fit the 5.3/4L60E in tomorrow - making adapter plates for the motor, and probably making my own tranny crossmember as well.

It rained this week, so it's got some rainspots here and there... Just dodged some crazy hail too!

Excuse the brake lines - they're not all hooked up yet.

Thanks. It looks like there was a big CB intenna mounted there or somesuch..

I'm going to try it with the stocker and a proportioning valve(on the frame rail near the rear) and see how that works. A buddy of mine has a '66 with the exact same setup and said his brakes are awesome - so...

What kind of wheels are those? Are they six lug? Did you have to use a spacer in the rear? They look like they have a lot of offset, like they are meant for a 99+ chevy truck.

5 lug - 5x5. KMC 820 SS's. 22x9.5 rear with a +12mm offset. The fronts are 20.8.5 with a +10mm offset. The rears easily clear on the inside, but are close to the fender edge, which I'll have to clearance to be safe. We didn't have any +18's left - they would have been perfect.. I do need an adjustable panhard bar though. The fronts I've eyeballed but haven't even checked with the front and fenders on yet.. lol They look like they'll be just fine.

285-35R22's out back and 245-40R20's up front.

Maybe it's just me, but I get this uncomfortable feeling every time I see a vehicle without a dual master cylinder. One leak or blowout and you're without any brakes.

I hear ya...that was the FIRST thing I did on my '63....my kids LOVE to ride in the CHIEF...and I LOVE MY KIDS !!!

You might want to change that out son....

I'll look into that for sure! I'm new to the disc/drum thing like this - as you can see.

If a dual master is the way to go, that's next on my list of parts.

I will have an E-brake, which I'm going to have to figure out how to work since the rear is a new 5 lug unit - appearantly with shorter cables. I've heard the '66 and newer set-up will work with the current firewall mounted lever I have - true? Anyone?

For sure want a prop valve so if one side leaks on the master cylinder it will shut the flow off to the leaked side. Nice looking truck.

What a difference! I love the look of chassis black paint on the suspension and under the hood. What do have in mind for paint on the body?

I can confirm that the e-brake set-up for a 1966 will work with 1971-1972 e-brake cables as I have installed a rear axle out of a 71 into my 66. Have you tried removing the e-brake cables from the old rear and installing them on the newer axle?

I have a early '70s disc/drum master and a mid '80s proportioning valve on my '66 with a mid '80s front cross member. you could probably use a pro valve from thee same year you use the master from. the early '70s masters work with the stock '64-'66 boosters I have found.
