When does your driving season start?

I know that being in AK I'm probably behind everyone else as to when I can roll the C10 out for some summer driving fun. Today I was pushing it. I had to tow the 68 through the snow up my driveway to get it to pavement, but it was a warm spring day and the roads had dried out even though the snow isn't gone. It was a blast finally getting in the first drive of spring. So, when do you guys finally take your rigs out for the first spin of the year?

Re: When does your driving season start?

What a timely thread.

Mine will start this Wednesday. Just got done replacing cab mounts, fuel lines & filters, and lower radiator hose and anti-freeze. Monday, I put the chrome rims back on and fired it up. I'll bolt the bench seat in today, and nice sunny weather in Chicago on Wednesday for the first drive of the season.

Smile Re: When does your driving season start?

We can and do year round driving pretty easily around here. We only get a couple of days of snow...maybe.
However, I take my truck off the road for a really specific reason other than weather. That is to keep the novelty of it when I re-license it in the spring. I always love that day when I put the insurance back on it and take it for its first jaunt....and definitely helps keep then truck 'special'.
On rainy cool/cold winter days I would just as soon be running around town getting my 'other' vehicle dirty...and it does get better mileage!!
My two bits.

Since we had a warm winter and no snow at all here in Northern Virginia, I've been going out on most weekends (When it's not raining, of course).

Re: When does your driving season start?

Everybody already beat me to all the jokes about living in in the sunny states. I live in Southern California and I ride a few different motorcycles to work everyday all year around and the chance it rains I drive a car. My Blazer sits in the garage looking for a excuse to cruise it to my kids soccer games or baseball or a beach cruise. One of these days I have to Cruise my large KTM enduro up to Alaska in the Spring.

Re: When does your driving season start?

Had them out in mid March which was the warmest March here on record. Even took a motorcycle ride. Normally the first ride is sometime in later April when the spring rain has washed the winter salt off the roads. They use so much road salt in the Northeast that your rides would be virtually vaporized in one winter's use.

Re: When does your driving season start?

My non a/c truck driving usually slows down May to July. That's when the weather starts to get somewhat uncomfortable in this part of the state. By August and Sept. it's usually in the high 90's to 110 and I only drive it early in the A.M.

About two seasons of doing that where I live would result in a pile of rust dust.

Hopefully before the summer is over I will have my '67 swb stepper back on the road. I usually drive mine whenever they are not salting the roads.
