driveline vibration

im getting a vibration from my driveline. it is smooth from 0-45mph then it vibrates at 45 dies off torward 50 and then has a slight vibration from 50-almost 70 and then vibrates 70 and up. whats wrong and how do i fix it.

Where does it feel like it's vibrating? Could be the carrier bearing where your driveshaft goes thru the crossmember going bad. Could be a tire.

Vibrations can be tough to find. Couple of tricks to help. Try putting the truck in neutral and see if the vibration continues. Then check the drive shaft universal joints --sometimes you can twist and feel some play and sometimes not. The carrier bearing is another bugger but so to is it's mounting placement. Finally putting the truck up on a lift then jacking the rear axle up and running it will help as you can usually pick off axle, pinion, driveshaft, etc. This all asumes that your wheels are true, your tires are true and they are well balanced as well as your driveshafts. Another thought comes to mind is to be sure the two piece driveshafts are "clocked" correctly at the slip yoke.

If you want to rule out your tires and wheels you need to take it to a shop that has a "road force balancer" this machine puts a wheel down on the tire and applies road force while it's balanced. The computer can pick out variations in the wheels as well as bad tires. It can also tell them where to move the tire on the rim to get them back into spec. Slight variations can cause vibrations that regular balancing can't solve. The only problem is that the machine is expensive as hell, and the shop will probably charge you diagnostic time to work on your tires. Works like a champ though. I think the carrier bearing is another thing to look at if the u joints are good.

My C/10 has a vibration 55-60 and 75-80.
Can't remember exactly what my mechanic said was wrong with the drive line there but he told me how to fix it.
2 options:
1. Don't drive those speeds and if you do
2. Turn up the stereo.
It is a very minor vibration so hours of trying to find it will just cost too much and drive you crazy.
Minor enough that a couple of weeks ago I was under my truck and found a lug nut that was just sitting on the frame. That lug nut had sat there since approx. 1998 and about 7000 miles.

In my experience, whenever a vibration could not be traced after all the normal checks were made, it's aways been a driveshaft problem. Good luck!

I have the same issue and balancing/rotating the wheels did not solve it. Since the driveshaft is one piece I suspect the u-joints, although they are not very old.

i blew up the rear end last summer and the problem seemed like it got worse after that is it possible that it messed up the u-joints when it went out
