Question Water pump-long or short?/ Summit pump quality?

Hey guys, on the vortec engine I am installing, should I use the long water pump?
It has the stock timing cover and I tried a old style timing cover and it would not clear.

Do I need the long pump to clear the stock timing cover?

How about the quality of summit water pumps?- good , bad or neutral?

The long nose water pump makes things easier, but you have to move all of the other pulleys as well. I ran into this problem on my Vortec build. What I did was take a dremel tool and clearance the water pump a little bit and grind down the timing cover bolt on the passenger side of the block to clear it. Mine works just fine and no leaks. The casting on the water pump is pretty thick so you really don't have to worry to much when it comes to gringing.

Sorry. I was able to use the short nose pump with the clearance work. I would take a pic of it but you can see where it is done with the pump on.
