Back to Work!

In January of 2013 the $100 engine I had in my Blazer finally threw a rod. I towed the truck home and started my engine swap. Then I got ambitious... "As long as I'm in here, why not clean this up?" Before I knew it I was staring at bare frame rails and a firewall.

Then I retired from the Army and began teaching high school, and life got kind of crazy. Now here I am 4+ years later with a garage full of parts. So on Saturday my wife says, "I've been thinking..." Usually that means I'm going to be building or remodeling or fixing something. This time she said, "We really need your Blazer. The children don't like to take drives in my car (Highlander Hybrid) and we can't all fit in your Camaro, so we need the Blazer for family drives. Can you have it done by the end of next week?"

So I explained why it might take longer than a week, but I got started yesterday. I'm taking the next couple of days off to get a good jump start, and the goal is to have it back on the road by the end of July. I've already benefitted a lot from what I've learned from board members, and I'm sure I'll be back for advice. The plan isn't too crazy, just clean and paint the engine compartment and put in a Vortec 5.7 with a Quadrajet and HEI. I'll let you know how it goes.

Dig it. Tear at it like snakes. You will be happier in long run. I know when I neglect a project it kinda eats at me.

Re: Back to Work!

my wife basically told me the same thing, you need to get your truck finished. but then continues to come up with things for me to do. at least when I remind her what she said, she is good with it.

You're one lucky guy to have a wife like that! Good luck on the rebuild, and Thanks for your service.

I'm of the thought that if you don't have a wife like that you should think back to where you went wrong lol. The worst saying I ever heard was "happy wife happy life".

Amen. It is a horrible saying. It means you're with someone you shouldn't be with. Ask me how I know?

Well, why do you think she's so supportive of me? It's a mutual thing, and I've spent 33 years making sure she's happy. It turns out that's made me pretty happy too.

Flashed, Sorry to hear about your Wife. My condolences on your loss. Good to hear that you are getting back into it though. Good Luck with your projects. I know everyone on here will be happy to assist with any questions, though I would guess you will not have very many...
