anyone install a T56 tranny?? got pics?

Hey guys, I used the search tool and found a lot of talk about installing a 6 speed T56, but did not see any pictures, I was wondering if anyone had tackled this feat and if so, how and where is the stick shift? it looks to be all the way at the back of the trans. I am looking at possibly doing this to my truck with a long shifter and a bench seat. I would hate to have to do buckets. Let me know, thanks.

At one point Kiesler was selling a shifter relocation kit, but they're out of business now. There was a post somewhere on here about using CTS-V shifter parts to move the shifter forward, that may be an option.

Glad you brought this up! I was lucky enough to pick up a T56 for a great deal... not sure if it'll go in my '56 or not, but I'd love to see what flks have to say

Another option is a Magnum T56 from Tremec. Lots more money but it has three shifter positions. By time you buy a used T56, the parts to relocate the shifter, and pay labor to have a trans shop install the shifter relocator, you might not be too far off from the cost of a Magnum T56.

I have an email from them stating that they filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy and won't be taking any orders, and they're not able to fill all the orders they had.

That's too bad. I hate to see any company go under.

I have a 5 speed Tremac TKO 600 and all I had to do is turn the stick around rear location to clear my bench stock seat.
You must have different speed limits where you are.
I am skipping gears now driving around town, I could not even think about a 6 speed !!

Re: anyone install a T56 tranny?? got pics?

It really isn't about the speeds so much as the gear ratios, most if not all the t56 come from cars and are pretty wide ratio, I commute about 75 miles a day and would like to occasionally drive my truck without auctioning a kidney. I am not building a drag racer, I will probably run gears out back in the range of 3.50-3.60's depending on what deals I can get on a rear end.

Look up a gear ratio calculator before you choose an axle ratio. 29" tall tire and 4.56 gears will be 2000 rpm at 76 mph. Too low of a rear gear (numerically) would drop the rpm too low to ever use sixth gear.
