Says the documentation all supports it as being an original SWB BB Super...if so, his 20K asking price (per his comments) is reasonable if not actually a good deal!...

From experience...you CANNOT correctly build one like this for under 20K...

your looking at a 72 chevrolet cheyenne super short wide short box 400 (402bb) all matching numbers motor and transmission 87K miles equipped with factory cold a/c front disc brakes tilt, tac am/fm radio all the houndstooth interior is original from 1972 and in great shape also has rare rear leaf springs instead of coils.truck has been stripped down bare and bed removed molding windows etc. and repainted with a gorgeous paint job six months ago....Truck looks awesome and truck drives perfect just had it freshened up with a new cam pushrods lifters timing chain etc. truck needs nothing...Everything is in perfect working order a/c blows cold....truck has the original build sticker original fender stickers and radiator stickers showing dates made and 402 engine have the original book also..2nd owner.this is a hard truck to find with the 400 and also being matching numbers short box

yes, I'd definitely want to see the vin plate, and the original documentation the seller speaks of before bidding.....as well as have someone inspect locally....

Yes, I agree and meant to point that out since the font is wrong.

Honestly that doesn't really bother me as long as the vin tag and original documentation are good (vin tag will verify if it was a true original big block and documentation should also tell whether it was a true SWB super originally). Many people re-do spids when re-painting a truck or when originals become hard to read or torn.

If I were the seller, I would have that documentation as a part of the ebay ad....

The VIN will only verify if it was a V8 or 6 cylinder, not a big block. It would not matter to me, as long as it was built right and the truck had no rust.

Agree on the vin......it's the GVW on the vin tag that is the trick

And I agree...at 20K ...if built correct and rust-free....it's a good price even if it wasn't an original BB SWB....

On a 1972 only, the vin will tell you if it was a BB. It has to do with the weight specs.

That is good to know! My 72 has the original big block. I am going to compare it with a 72 small block vin tag now to see the difference.

I'll bet that truck started life as a LWB. The emission label is correct for a 1/2 ton 402, but the SPID is not original. The weights on the VIN tag are probably correct but again I'll bet the frame was either shortened or is sitting on a non-matching number frame. I asked for pics of the dual exhaust brackets and verification of the frame number matching and never heard back from the seller.

The 'rare' leaf springs upgrade has me.... can anyone confirm this?

Also, did the horn buttons have a blue or yellow bowtie? I was assuming blue to match the hubcaps. I thought 73+ were yellow.

SPID is a big indicator to me that it's a clone. It might not be but with 87,000 original miles it should still be there. My truck had 96,000 original miles and it is still there.

I guess leafs are rare on Chevy's, as opposed to GMC's.

I agree on the SPID. If that's not there and looking right, then adjust your thinking accordingly. If you're into the whole matching numbers thing, this aint your truck. But as VA72C10 said, if it's disclosed and you want a nice looking tribute then have at it.

leddzepp hit the key thought. If a numbers matching truck was what one wanted--then-validation and verify would be my quest but....if that wasn't a big deal than this would be a sweet truck. I think after reading the various thoughts on this thread...I think this is a clone but my thinking might change on a moments notice

This guy has been calling and texting me off and on for over a year about this truck, im about 99 % sure this is it. Sounds nice and he says it is a original swb 402. He bought it from original owner, but i didnt like the spid and some other things we talked about. And this is the truck that i want, but with red interior with factory buckets. Regardless it is still worth 20000.00 in our area converted or not as long as there was no RUST. I just never made the 1 hr trip to look at it. Ill be watching it next couple days.

Maybe things didn't add up so he closed the auction or he got an offer he could not refuse.

As mentioned, the SPID is the first red flag for me. Regardless, it's a nice truck and the owner should be able to get the money for it.

I pulled it up a couple days ago and it looked like he was a little upset about some of the questions people have been asking him. He said he didnt need money and didnt have time for tire kickers. It is the guy i have talked to for the last couple years, because he also has a red and white swb cheyenne.
