What size speakers should I order?

Would someone be so kind as to tell me the size of the front and rear speakers for ay 86 GMC pickup would be? I would like to place an order for a radio and speakers and have everything available before I start removing the dash cover and speakers covers behind the seat. This truck is a daily driver. Thanks in advance.

The factory dash speakers are 3-1/2" round. And the ones in the cab corners behind the seat are 4" x 10" oval.

Re: What size speakers should I order?

If I might make a suggestion....4" will fit in the corners under the dash pad, and you have a lot more options with 4" speakers than with 3.5"

And 6x9's in the back sound a LOT better than the 4x10 from the factory, and again, 6x9's are cheaper and have tons more options than you have with 4x10's.

I got these brackets from a user here years ago, and it made a HUGE difference with 6x9's in the back vs the factory 4x10's, and with these brackets it still looks factory-ish.

Re: What size speakers should I order?

Unless you know the rear speakers are factory, verify the size. 4x10 is what the factory brackets take but if a PO installed aftermarket holders/boxes, decent chance they are 6x9.

Unless you are going for a portable earthquake machine, modern 4x10s are good enough for most uses. Modern speaker tech lets more sound come from smaller packages then was possible 40 years ago. Plus if you really want gut rattling bass, you can always add a sub-woofer.
