haha.. I'm a moron..

Ok.. if you can't laugh at yourself who can you laugh at..

I got a wild hair last night and decided to diagnose the battery drain on my Jimmy (real exciting right??)

Well I hooked up the test light and started removing fuses.. Remove a fuse, check light. Remove fuse, check light. This went one and one until all the fuses were removed and replaced (btw, I HATE the old glass fuses). Anyways after going through all the fuses I'm standing there scratching my head and then realize...

I UNHOOKED THE POSITIVE CABLE AND HOOKED UP THE LIGHT...

Sometimes I wonder about myself

Re: haha.. I'm a moron..

Don't feel bad. I was putting my bumper on the other day and couldnt find the license plate light bulb, so I went and bought another one and put it in the socket and it doesnt work. Of course I didnt have the light bracket mounted to the bumper yet and I had a volt meter telling me I had 12 volts at the light socket. To make a long story short it sure does help to mount the bracket to the bumper (now properly grounded) and then try and see if the light works.

Re: haha.. I'm a moron..

Man.....I could write a book......LOL. The lastest was last night: Putting in a windhield(first time) and was having trouble until my wife realized that the rubber that I thought I was tearing was actually black trim or something that holds the seal good and tight around the windshield. Removed that and the windshield went in as easy as pie. Put the rubber back around it and it looked like a Pro had done it.....LOL. What took two hours could've taken 20 minutes......LOL. Oh well, lessons learned.

I spend more time looking for the tool I just used, than I do working on the truck.

Or get back in your company truck, put a cig in your mouth, push in cig lighter and reach in your pocket and light your cig with your lighter.

I do things like that all the time. It just reminds me that I am normal, and that I am not very organized. even when I try to organize it doesn't work well for me. You're not a moron, just normal.

I had to pull a P/S front fender & heater box off just to figure out I never connected the ground wire back on the blower motor.

I was doing something similar with my ranger. I went thru all the fuses and still couldn't figure out why I had a drain...then I noticed the driver side door was open and the dome light was on.

Re: haha.. I'm a moron..

You can also put your multimeter in current mode, and measure between the batt and the hot lead. Doing the math, you can figure out how long your battery should last on the drain too! But don't run more current than the meter can take. I used this once to track a short to the cig lighter
